No idea when this story come from. Part of it was written a few years ago and saved on a memory stick I have just found. And since I have finally replaced my laptop I thought I would finished this story – because why not? They are stranger stories out there…
Anyway I do not own the Musketeers
Time Traveling Musketeers
Chapter One
King Louis seem to favour d'Artagnan at the moment, as much as the he was honour by it – he was getting annoyed. "I rather be outside than be stuck indoors again…." Complained d'Artagnan as he watched Athos, Aramis and Porthos ready for their mission.
"It's going to rain you know," said Aramis looking at the grey skies "You would be glad to be inside – especially since you still haven't invested in a hat."
"I lived on a farm remember – animals needed feeding rain or shine, hat or no hat" said d'Artagnan at once with a playful look in his eye. No doubt he used to cause lot of trouble as child. "Maybe I should suggest a hunting trip…"
Athos shook his head, "Stay out of trouble," he warned – he didn't mention that he should stay away from the Cardinal as well. The Cardinal hadn't been pleased with them for a while and Athos feared the Cardinal would take his angry out on d'Artagnan seeing he was the less experience solider – it would be earlier for the Cardinal to have a change when himself, Aramis and Porthos away on a mission.
"What could possibly happen?" question d'Artagnan unamused at Athos warning "It you three that better watch your backs – you're the ones that's on an exciting treasure hunt and the ones who can find trouble in a locked room…"
Porthos laughed "You can't have all the adventures. You have to learn – sometimes being a musketeers is boring."
They rode out of the city – it was odd being just the three of them again, it didn't feel right now they were used to d'Artagnan's company. "Okay, what exactly are we looking for again?" asked Aramis
"A pedant that has been stolen," said Athos "It apparently one of a kind. The king would like it back." King Louis observably didn't have any real connection to this pendant – he only wanted it back because the thief manged to break into the vaults.
"All this trouble for one piece of jewellery," said Porthos more to himself "What a different life people live."
Athos rode a little ahead of the others "The thief wasn't a very good one it seems – he dropped half a letter telling him were to go,"
"Some people are stupid," commented Porthos – this might be an easy mission if they caught the thief before he got too far.
"Or it could be a trap," said Aramis yawning a little "Really, how careless would you be to carry a letter like that with you and drop it as the scene of the crime?" Aramis looked up as it began to rain "I hate the rain, d'Artagnan is lucky he is inside."
"Lucky?" question Porthos "I think he rather be in the rain, than be in the same room as the cardinal all day…." He looked ahead "I don't think we been in it for long – that's the shack that was mention in the letter…."
They entered the small shack to find the thief standing inside, he looked shock to see them, "Give back the pendant and you will get off lightly," said Athos in a calm and controlled voice.
The thief looked at the three musketeers in turn, then he try to escape, he picked up a musket and pointed it at Athos but Aramis shot him and he fell to the ground "He wasn't that bright was he," he comment before praying for his soul and picking up the stolen pendant "Doesn't look too special,"
"It's not one of a kind," said Athos he looked on the table and found the other half of the letter "There are three of them but worth a lot of money…"
"Someone want to find all three of them?" asked Aramis puzzled "That's a lot of trouble just to get their hands some pendants…"
"That because you don't know what they can do," said a voice. They all turn to see Milady de Winter standing behind them. She looked at the body of the thief almost disinterestedly, "I see you caught my thief – he wasn't as good as he said he was… but men often say things like that…"
Athos wasn't impressed to see his wife standing in the room with them. He hope she was long gone by now. "What do you want with these pendant?"
Milady smiled at Athos "You wouldn't believe me if I told you," she said sweetly "You think they are just jewellery but they hold power that is beyond our understanding."
Aramis shook his head "Are you talking about magic?"
"You caught on fast," said Milady with a smile still looking at Athos "Get all three then imagine what you can do…" Milady walked to the table "I been looking for these for a long time – It hasn't been easy getting my hands on them."
Athos looked at Milady "You really believe these hold magic powers… you're delusional…"
"Maybe I am," said Milady de Winter with a smile, "Maybe I'm not?" She showed them a similar looking pedant "But I know where I am going, maybe you should follow Athos? I am sure you want to when you find out who I might meet," With that the pendant started to glow and with that she was gone.
"Now what do we do?" asked Aramis blinking a few times not believing what had just happen. "This is madness – I must be going mad…"
Athos was also staring at the space where Milady was seconds before. "If you are going mad then I must be too…"
Porthos looked at Aramis and Athos "I think we need to make an unplanned trip to the court of miracles." He said "I know someone who might be able to help."
"Are you sure this person is going to help us?" asked Athos as they moved though the shadows of the court. They had to remove they uniform before entering – they didn't want to draw attention to themselves.
"If anyone can help us – this person can," said Porthos confidently "If anyone going to believe us – he will…"
"Who is he?" asked Athos
Porthos was quite for a moment as some children ran passed barefooted "He's old, he was old when I was a young boy, and everyone remembers him old…." Porthos was quite for a moment "But he is smart, and he knows about magic….."
"And his name?" asked Aramis
"Everyone here calls him Amborouis," Said Porthos leading the way to a door before knocking on it. They heard a shout to come in and they did so. They walked into a room crammed with many books in different languages. They were jars of potions and medicines and random objects that they had no idea what they were. A large cat was sleeping on a chair – it looked up at the musketeers before putting his head down again and an owl flew a crossed the room – it had to be one of the strangest rooms they ever been in.
"Yes?" asked an old man with a bead he seem very grumpy he looked up and them and studied them for a moment "Of course it would be your three that see me….destiny like it's jokes…"
"Can you tell us anything about this?" asked Athos showing the pendant – he wasn't going to question the old man what he meant about destiny – it didn't seem important. He was unsure if this man could help but he didn't know who else would be able to do so.
The man took the pendant and looked at closely "I hadn't seen magic like this for years – strong but fading, like everything else it seems…." The man hold it up and looked at it again "Ah, nothing is ever simple…. Look like you three are going on a quest….
"A quest?" question Athos
"Used to go on many when I was younger," said the old man to himself, he looked at the three musketeers "Someone had used one of these to go into the past. Time shouldn't be messed with – you have to go and find this person and bring them back to now…." The old man shook his head "You shouldn't mess with time – they never teach anything useful these days do they?"
"Sorry – but are you talking about time travel?" asked Porthos
"Yes, keep up…" ranted the man walking around the room taking down a book and different ingredients "You have to go back and make sure nothing changes….and bring that person back…." The man was now mixing some of the ingredients together – he pour it into a small glass and shook it. "When you find them, open this up and you return to the here and now….. But make sure you bring no one from that past to the future…. It will cause a huge mess that I will have to clear up…."
Aramis looked the glass wearily "How do we go back in time…."
"The pendant of course," said the man "You three must had some brain between you… Soldiers and knights are all the same – swords and fighting….never time to think…." The man shook his head "The pendant… its links the others together used one to find the others…. One must be lost – that why the time travel…last know place….so you need to make sure it stay lost…."
"Errr….how does the pendant work?" asked Porthos
The old man shock his head he took the pendant and throw the other Athos neck "Hold hands – do it unless you want to left behind…. And spin the stone…like this…" the man span the stone "And remember – don't mess with time…" then everything went black.
End of Chapter one – I had to added old Merlin into the story as well – I couldn't help myself. Magic, Aramis/ Lancelot and Merlin all seems to fix together in my mind.
