Kate gave me a challenge, and this is my response. The rules were to pick a non-canon pairing for the assigned fandom, and write about them. She gave me Batman Begins/The Dark Knight, allowing me to bring in Robin, Riddler, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, anyone I wanted, as long as someone from one of the movies was in the pairing. R&R!!

Disclaimer: I don't own it, nor will I ever. Are you happy now?

"That's the funny thing about knowing you can't have something. It makes you desperate."
- Leah Clearwater ~ Breaking Dawn (pg. 320)

She shouldn't like him like that.

Her heartbeat should not change whenever she sees him. Every time it happens, she passes it off on the adrenaline pumping throuhg her system, but her heart knows better.

There have been times when she wished she could see his whole face. When she wished she did not have to run away into the night. She wishes they could meet under different circumstances, but knows that they can't.

That is why she keeps doing it. She gets him to come after her, she fights him off, and then she runs away to dream of another world. A world where the two of them could be together without anyone or anything getting in their way.

Every single other time she robbed somewhere, she could care less about what she stole and became more and more desperate to see him.

The artifacts were not important. She only cared about her adversary, and how enjoyable it was, fighting him night after night.

She knew she should stop before he finally won, but could not bring herself to do so. She had fallen for him without realizing it, and now she was just digging herself deeper. She knew there was no way out, and so she gave up trying to find one.

When he found sidekicks, the fights became more challenging, but also more enjoyable. It started to become a trial, getting away, but she enjoyed the challenge more than she should have.

Every time they met it was a harder fight, but both parties got better every time, as well.

He was always confused by her targets, there was never any link, and yet she always got away. Sometimes, the stolen items would show up somewhere, but the original thief could never be traced down.

One night, she finally slipped. She forgot to watch her back, and one of the sidekicks snuck up on her, catching her by surprise. Within seconds, she was pinned to the ground, staring into the face of her secret love.

The trio tied her up and left when they heard the sirens coming near, while she sat and though of the life that could never be.

In the questioning room, she finally lost it, letting out a chorus of maniacal laughter, and confusing the hell out of the cops,

When they closed the door on her cell in Arkham, insane laughter rang out yet again as she thought of how the Bat had finally caught the Cat.
