Author's Note: Friendship. I don't know what I've written but o.o yeah here it is. Sakura shows Gaara kindness on Valentine's. Might be a little out of character. Sorry about the mistakes.

Open Heart

Gaara held the cup against his lips, sipping the tea lightly. He was sitting alone in a booth made for two in the coffee shop. He rested the cup down on the table, he glanced at the clock in the right corner next to the cash register. It appeared that he was awaiting someone's arrival, to perhaps have a nice conversation with.

He took the time to make notice of the red hearts painted on the walls, the red paper hearts hanging by string located above him, even the coasters were shaped in hearts. Surrounded by couples, sitting behind him, across from his table, most were holding hands, smiling or kissing.

Everyone was wearing happy smiles on a wonderful holiday like this one, everyone with the exception of himself. Gaara felt a faint thump coming from his chest, he clutched at it. The pain stopped, he knew the reason he felt the thump. He simply wanted a gesture from someone reaching out to him, to show him some kindness in a loving manner.

A pink-haired girl walked into the coffee shop, her hand nudged his shoulder. He lifted his head, tilting to recognize her familiar face. He gazed upon her, she gave a gentle smile at him.

"Sorry, I was late. I was a little busy with a mission." She apologized.

"It's okay." Gaara briefly answered.

"That reminds me, I brought you a gift." Sakura pulled out a box, out of her purse.

"Kind of silly I know, but here you go." She offered him the small box, wrapped in red hearted gift paper with white lace tied, making a bow. He refused to take it out of her hands.

"Come on, take it."

"Okay." Gaara took the box. He looked at her as if he were asking her if he should open it. She nodded her head, he unwrapped the box. He lifted the box's top off, inside he found a necklace. He held the necklace by the pendant. He was a little dumbfounded by the appearance, the pendant had a double-sided heart, though the hearts weren't connected fully.

"What is it?"

"It's called an open heart necklace."

"I don't understand." Gaara replied, carefully staring at the necklace's shape.

"People with open hearts should be wearing something like this."

"Then, why give it to me?" Gaara moved his attention to Sakura.

"Like your heart, the heart is open. Open for anyone to come on in." She smiled at him.

He blushed for a brief moment. He hid his head, turning to the other side, keeping her from seeing his face make a light red color. The redness faded away as he shifted back.

"Thank you, Sakura."

"I just thought it was for you."

Sakura took the necklace out of his hand, pulling it around Gaara's neck. She placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.

"I didn't get anything for you, Sakura." Gaara started to fiddle with the necklace.

"That's okay. You can always buy me something next year." Sakura suggested. She pointed her finger at the dress, the girl at the next table was wearing. She giggled, Gaara let his lips curve into a smile.

"Happy Valentine's Day, Gaara." Sakura wrapped her arms around Gaara's back. He stood still as she hugged him tightly. That empty spot that felt so sore a few moments ago, vanished with her heartwarming gesture. He finally complied to her embrace, hugging her back.

"Happy Valentine's Day to you too, Sakura." He softly whispered.
