Severus looked pitifully down to his feet, which he was scuffling in the dusty Hogwarts ground. Lily Evans and James Potter were across the path from him, she was sitting there in his arms, her big green eyes staring blissfully into his hazel ones.
Severus felt stupid that he had thought he perhaps had a chance with Lily Evans. Well that was never going to happen. He glanced over again, admiring how the sun glinted in her long red hair, the colour of fire, but which,with the effect of the sun, looked golden. Lily had always been his best friend, until this year when she finally fell in love with James, leaving Severus and all things Slytherin behind her.
He looked up again; a mistake, as he found them eloped in a passionate embrace, kissing so hard he could hardly tell whose face was whose. He got up turned and walked alone to the Hogwarts castle.
He went into his common room, and ran to his dormitory made sure he was alone and cried like he had never cried before.

I am rather fond of Severus and though I love Lily and James I often wonder what would have happened had she fallen for Severus?
