Note: Forgive the new names! I suck at naming, so you get Mello's Japanese name (Miharu Keru, if you're wondering) switched. If you have any better ones for him, or any for Light, L, Matt and (maybe, I'm not sure if I'll add them yet) Mikami, Misa and Kiyomi. That is, suggest better names, or you'll be stuck with some lousy ones, like Hikari (Japanese for light) for Light, and Mair Jeva (jay-va) (an alteration of the Japanese version of his name) and ! Also, yes the beginning is slightly angsty, but that's only because It's in Near's POV, and I've always felt that Near might've cared for Mello deep down, and Mello for Near.
Near's POV:
A familiar feeling settled in my chest. Sadness? Loss? Nostalgia? All three? It had been 6 years since Light had killed. As well as another. Even now, the loss of…. Perhaps not a friend, but maybe a rival, or a constant in my life, hurt. Mello, Mihael Keehl, had left this world….
Or so I thought…..
No!
I can't think like that!
Keru Miharu is not Mello, despite my wishes…..
I looked over at the door, and a painfully familiar sight greeted me. Two heads, one of blonde and one of brown sulked into the room. Keru and Mair. Beside me, Roger spoke up.
"Keru, you've been told, far too many times, that you can not beat up others-"
"But Roger, Wallace stole my chocolate!" Keru said unhappily. Mair nodded somberly in agreement. I resisted the urge to both laugh and cry at the same time.
Roger sighed, "Keru, some children have to make it out of Wammy's alive. *sigh* Just don't let me hear of this again, or you can say goodbye to your chocolate altogether."
Keru gasped dramatically. "Roger! You wouldn't!"
"That might not be such a good idea, Roger." Mair said under his breath, "Keru gets wicked withdrawal symptoms" he said, continuing to tap away on his DS.
Roger sighed again and said, "Right, get along now, it's nearly 12:00. You'll need your sleep if you're going to do this again tomorrow." he said wearily. The two trouble-makers scuttled out before Roger could change his mind about not punishing them.
I watched them leave with a sense of nostalgia. I would often be in the background, minding my own business as the two delinquents were scolded by Roger. I honestly didn't know someone could miss being called cotton-ball.
Note (yes, again): This fic hopefully won't be as angsty as the first chapter. I plan on making it more centered around Light, L, Mello, Matt and Near. Near's here because that's the only way I could think of starting the story. I'm going to try and make it more about how the first 4's personalities would have interacted without all the "I must catch/kill him" stuff. I'm not going to say how they got to be in Wammy's (for now anyway) because I think that would overshadow their pasts as Light, L, Mello and Matt. Their past lives were tragic. These lives are going to be a bit better. Also, please review. I want to know if the characters are too OOC, or really anything that makes that negatively impacts the story. Hope you enjoyed!
