A/N A story about James and Lily (durrr) if they were your ordinary muggles with nine to five jobs. Contains Lily's vehement thoughts (and, later on, James' rather dirty ones), hence the T. I do apologise for the awful title but I really couldn't think of anything else. Also, this is my first fanfiction, so don't get your hopes up just yet.
-insert disclaimer here-
ONE
Lily Evans was a very sensible, no nonsense girl. She took two showers a day, ate fruits after dinner, and never made mistakes. At least nothing that couldn't be fixed. She never swore out loud, never wore heels that were too high, and never fell for the wrong guy, even if he'd been staring at her for the past fifteen minutes.
(Lily's POV)
He was staring at me. Not occasional glances, full out staring. He'd been at it for so long I began to feel self-conscious. Was there something on my face? I was pretty sure I'd wiped off my milk mustache before leaving the flat. Maybe the second button on my blouse had come loose again. Damn that pesky button.
Stop pretending, Lily. You know exactly why he's staring.
And I did, though I wasn't sure whether I should be flattered or pissed. James Potter was that a-girl-a-night guy. Living across the hallway from him, I'd often witnessed his daily (nightly?) conquests tottering in and out of his flat. I knew his type of girl – smoky eyed and pouty lipped with their curves falling out of their tight dresses. I think my utter confusion as to why he was checking skinny, boring me out was perfectly justified.
It's a good thing, one part of me said, it means he likes me as much as he likes them!
Which isn't very much, another part replied, rather furiously. How dare he even think of me as one of his trophies!
I huffed at all the inner turmoil and turned my back to him.
Stop thinking about Potter, Lily. Do your work.
So I did. I typed out two lengthy reports, read a few proposals, drank three cups of coffee (with no sugar; Lily Evans does not need any sweetness in her life, thank you very much), and took multiple toilet breaks. I was doing a damn good job of not thinking about-
"Hey, Lily."
Ah, shit.

And so the first chapter concludes. I know, it's really short – my notes are longer than the actual story – but I just had the most terrible brain fart and my mind's still all stinky. I promise the future chapters will be longer. Let me know what you think/thought!
