Dad taught him a life of crime, discrimination. Things Sam basically despised.
Dean taught him much more. Biking. Swimming. Driving. Playing baseball. Everything important in a kid's life.
With Dean, he was free. He could live. Love. Be a happy kid. Dean had been his teacher, Sam the student. Dean had been his friend, his mother, his father. His light in dark places. He willingly gave his shoulder to cry on and his sleeve to wipe his face.
He'd never told Dean this in so many words. But he loved his brother. More than anything or anyone.
He always would.

SPOILERS for 5.22 Swan Song
They taught Me so much.
Those boys were given choices. Freedom or peace? Free Will or Destiny? The world or each other?
Dean, even faced with infallible evidence that his brother was now Lucifer, made it fallible.
Sam, against destiny written by Me, overtook Lucifer, saved his brother, saved everyone.
They'd begged Me for help, searched for Me all over My green Earth.
Ultimately, I told Dean the location of the final battle. I brought Sam back after he saved the world. I did it for those two boys. They deserved it. The teacher has, quite literally, become the student.
