#31 Obsession
Pairing: Sasuke/Naruto
Everyone knew that Naruto was never the same after Sasuke left. His eyes lost their shine of happiness, he quit smiling all the time, and he even quit yelling how he was going to be the Hokage.
After training with Jiraiya for three years, the villagers hoped that Naruto would be back to normal. Even though they still despised him for being the Kyuubi brat, things just didn't seem right with him acting so depressed.
Naruto wasn't as depressed as he had been after first losing to Sasuke at the Valley of the End when he first returned. In fact, he seemed a lot more confident that he could bring Sasuke back to the village.
Everyone thought that Sasuke was always so obsessed with killing Itachi for the murder of his clan, but that was nothing compared to Naruto's obsession with bringing Sasuke home.
As the months and years passed after Sasuke's defection, everyone had given up on him ever returning home except for Naruto. After every confrontation Naruto had with Sasuke, he just seemed to get more and more obsessed with him.
After coming back from a month long solo mission, Naruto's old team mates were wondering why he didn't come see them like he normally did when getting back from missions. They were really worried about him and his state of mind since he just would not seem to let it go that Sasuke wasn't coming back.
So, Sai and Sakura decided to go pay him and visit and try to tempt him to leave the apartment and have some Ichiraku's ramen with them. But what they saw when they entered his apartment wasn't what they were expecting.
They had walked in the front door slowly after Naruto had not answered their calls. They knew he was home, because he was always home when he wasn't training or on missions. They were surprised to hear laughing coming from Naruto's bedroom...it was something that they hadn't heard since before Sasuke had defected.
Cautiously, they pushed the bedroom door open and were horrified by what they saw on the bed. Naruto was sitting on the bed with his legs crossed, holding Sasuke's severed head in his lap, running his fingers threw the bluish black spikes. He talked to Sasuke's head as if Sasuke was sitting there alive listening to him tell stories about things that had happened around the village while he was gone.
Sai and Sakura looked into Naruto's eyes and they could tell that the real Naruto wasn't there anymore, that he had truly been gone for a long time. They didn't know how to break it to Tsunade that her favorite ninja was never going to recover from this.
They would have never guessed that his childhood obsession would lead to insanity. It was a tragic end to both of the great shinobi on the bed.
