Gabrielle leaned back against the wall of her room and sighed happily. Xena had just thrown her another surprise birthday party- only this one hadn't been much of a surprise. And it also had not featured any murder mysteries, which Gabrielle was thankful for.
Aphrodite, Joxer, Hercules, Iolaus, Amarice and Lila had all been there, along with many of their other friends, at Cyrene's inn. Gabrielle laughed as she thought of Autolycus offering to steal her anything she wanted. Her thoughts were interrupted by a blue flash.
"Hello Gabrielle," Ares said. Gabrielle looked at him questioningly.
"Why are you here?" Ares smiled.
"Well, its your birthday, isn't it?" Gabrielle nodded.
"I just wanted to give you a little present." Gabrielle immediately wondered where her sais were, feeling pretty sure that she might not like his gift.
"Oh, don't be so skeptical Gabrielle." He handed her a box. "Enjoy!" With another heart stopping smile, he disappeared from sight.
Gabrielle looked at the box uncertainly for a number of moments; finally, curiosity won out. She undid the shiny silver bow and slowly pulled off the silky black lid. Her jaw dropped as Gabrielle saw the delicate bracelet it contained. It was silver, with a vibrant blue sapphire in the middle. The silver design reminded Gabrielle of Ares' gauntlets. Gabrielle smiled.
"Gotta remember to thank him," she said to herself. Realizing the lateness of the hour, Gabrielle fell into bed. Ares watched her fall asleep, the bracelet clenched firmly in her right hand. When he was sure she was dreaming, Ares left.
