"Them Bones, Them Bones"
a very short story

"Let's go. Xena's ready," Gabrielle told Amarice.
"Actually, I think I'm gonna stay here for a while. I could learn a few things." *
Gabrielle nodded and started to walk away. As soon as the camera shifts to Xena and Yakut, Gabrielle turns and runs, full speed, back to Amarice.
"Gabrielle? I thought you were leaving," Amarice said, surprised.
"No, I just did that so the cameraman would take the camera off of us. Amarice, you can't stay here. If you do, you'll die!" Gabrielle says anxiously.
"What do you mean?" Amarice asks, sounding worried.
"I mean that you are an Amazon with a name. All named Amazons who stay in Amazon villages die," Gabrielle replies.
"What do you mean?" Amarice repeats. She is clearly confused.
"Think about it- Terreis, Melosa, Solari, Eponin, Ephiny (poor Ephiny. I miss her)- what do they all have in common?"
Amarice thinks for a moment. "They're all dead?"
Gabrielle nods. "What else?" she asks.
"They were all Amazons?" Amarice guesses.
"And?" Gabrielle urges.
"They all lived in villages?" Amarice says.
"Exactly! It's a curse! I'm betting that any day now, we will receive news of Chilapa's death. Yakut's too, for that matter. But you still have a chance. Keep travelling with us and you'll be safe," Gabrielle suggests.
"But you've died a lot. In fact, you dies just yesterday!" Amarice argues.
"True… but I was here, in an Amazon village, yesterday," Gabrielle replies.
"And what about those other five or six deaths? And all of those near deaths?" Amarice points out.
"They don't count because I travel with Xena," Gabrielle says.
"So does that mean I will die regularly if I travel with you and Xena?" Amarice asks.
"Yeah, but you will always come back," Gabrielle answers.
"Thanks, but I think I'll stay here," Amarice decides.
"Don't say I didn't warn you!" Gabrielle says as she leaves.
(11 episodes later)
(After Xena and Gabrielle learn that Amarice is dead)
"I warned her!"
