When Agent Fornell got back to his office, he received a get well card-before he or anybody else actually told everybody that he was alive and well. At first, he didn't think anything of it, because he didn't realize it was a card. It wasn't until the card fell off the desk when he dropped his jacket on it and scattered papers everywhere that he had to pick them all up that he picked up the card, saw the scribbled neat signature,
Welcome back, Agent Fornell. Glad you weren't really dead.-Anonymous
And smiled.
It wasn't until he saw the date on the top right handside that he realized that the card must've been placed on his desk when he'd been declared dead and was in protective custody. He stared at the date for a bit, and made a quick phone call.
"Gibbs?" He waited for Gibbs barked 'what' before asking, "Did you get me a card?"
When Gibbs responded with a 'what the hell are you talking about', he hung up the phone. He knew that would annoy his friend more than anything, but right now he was just outright astonished that one of his people guessed that he wasn't really dead, that he had still been alive.
Finally, he just shrugged and smiled, and placed the card on the edge of the desk next to his computer.
He was glad that he had some intelligent people in his office, after all.
And if Gibbs took the phone call as a hint to get him something nice…
Well, he wasn't about to complain.
