Chapter 1 – News
So, I've finally written the long-awaited and asked for sequel to It's Not What You Think and With You Forever. Sorry it took so long to write; school and a lack of plot bunnies for this particular series left much to be desired. That said, please enjoy!
It's been 6 years. Six agonizing years since she "died" and he had to say good-bye forever. Except she didn't die. The US Government and Interpol faked her death. He had no idea where she was, what she was doing, or even what she was called. And up until 2 hours ago, he wasn't even sure that she was alive.
Two hours ago was when everything in his crazy, chaotic, ever-changing world got just a little bit crazier. And a little bit better.
1200 EDT, NCIS Headquarters, Quantico, Virginia
NCIS Special Agent Tony Dinozzo sighed. He was exhausted, having been in the office since 7 the morning before working on their latest case, which they had just closed two hours earlier. He went back to writing his report for said case (dead Marine accidentally killed by college co-eds high on homemade hallucinogenics) when the elevator dinged. Normally he would just look up, see who had just exited, and go back to his job (or goofing off if Gibbs wasn't around), but the sight of an old FLETC classmate startled him out of his seat.
"Matt Braydon, where'd they dig you up from?"
"Tony Dinozzo, still goofing off I see."
The two men exchanged handshakes and pats on each other's shoulders before getting down to business. "So what brings you to NCIS, Matt?"
"Actually, I came for you, and your boss. He around?"
Tony looked around to see if the former Marine known as Leroy Jethro Gibbs was lurking around. Since the move, he'd been given even more places to pop up from and scare his senior field agent.
"He doesn't appear to be-"
"Who's your friend, Dinozzo?" Gibbs asked as he came up to the two men.
Tony tried his best to not look startled before replying, "Boss, this is Inspector Matt Braydon from the Marshals. Matt, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs."
"My condolences on the unfortunate name. My first name is Zachariah, so I know how it goes."
Gibbs chuckled at the younger man's shared horror of first names before asking, "What brings you to NCIS, Inspector?"
"A matter concerning a former colleague of yours, shot six years ago in the line of duty," he replied quietly.
Gibbs's face went stony, "Where in the Marshal's Service did you say you work?"
"I didn't, but you can probably guess what I do."
Tony took the folder his old friend had and looked over its contents. While it didn't say much (no mention of the individual's name, only a basic physical description and place of birth), Tony had figured out pretty quickly that the Marshal was here because of only one person: Special Agent Caitlin Todd.
