The Darkness of a Moonless Night
Chapter One~ Invitations
Alana walked down the rapidly emptying street. It was raining pretty hard and everyone was undoubtedly looking for shelter until the storm blew over. Alana was just searching for a place that was hiring, she needed a new job, and the weather was going to start getting colder now. She needed money to get a place to stay for the winter, otherwise it would be another winter spent on the streets. That was only one of Alana's many worries.
Alana ducked into a nearby shop, planning on pretending to browse until the storm finally let up. She bumped into someone on her way in and quietly apologized as she picked herself up off the floor. This person was tall, not to mention sturdy, if only bumping into them had knocked her over.
"Ah, there you are. I didn't expect you to look quite as shabby." A man's voice reached Alana's ears. She quickly looked up at the man, panic surging through her. Had they finally found where she had fled to? When Alana looked up she was met with the smiling face of a man wearing all black with black hair cut to about his ear lobes.
"Who are you and why are you looking for me?" Alana growled out, quite nervous about this entire thing. Her body was tense, ready to run back out if she needed to. Her hand also searched for the small dagger she kept with her at all times, never knowing if she would indeed need it or not.
"Ah, I have only come to extend an invitation to you. With your skills we invite you to work in the Phantomhive service. You will be paid handsomely as well as given a place to stay." The man continued to smile, which was creeping Alana out a bit.
"Why would you want me to work there? I am no maid. I have no talents that would be worthy of such a job." Alana crossed her arms in front of her; she wanted to know why this person was trying to hire her. She wasn't fit to work in a mansion, the only talents she had were to kill, talents which she had tried to dispose of previously.
"Yes but you can do something else. You can stand as a bodyguard; you are more than qualified for this position. Are you willing to accept this offer?" The man finally stopped smiling and looked down at Alana, revealing crimson eyes. She glanced at the man's eyes once before turning her head and nodding. Something about that man wasn't normal and quite frankly, it scared her. She did not want to get on this man's bad side.
"Well then, follow me and I will take you to the Young Master. He will approve you and if so then you will stay in the house." The man started to lead Alana out of the store before she spoke up again.
"So if I may be working with you soon, who are you?" Alana still didn't meet his eyes but looked up at him none the less.
"Ah, I have forgotten to introduce myself. I am Sebastian Michaelis, head butler for the House of Phantomhive. "Sebastian placed a gloved hand on his chest and bowed slightly before turning and leading Alana to the carriage that was to take her to a new life, or crash her into the life she left.
A/N
Okay so this is a new story I decided to try my hand at. I'm going to try a different dialogue in this one and such. So yeah, sorry the prologue is so short, I didn't want to go any further in the first chapter. The second chapter will go deeper into things. Hope to see you in later chapters ^_^
