His voice was controlled, even though his heart was breaking, with every word he spoke. "Don't you try an put this on me." His fists clenched. "You're the one left, or did you forget?" She gave an exasperated sigh, throwing her hands in the air. "You should've come after me. . . " She said quietly. He tried to swallow the lump forming in his throat. "You of all people should know." He gave a mirthless chuckle. "Seems your just as blind as the rest of us."

She was angry. "What the hell is that supposed to mean?" "I ain't tellin you if you can't figure it out!" He yelled, storming off. She ran after him, grabbing his arm. "Tell me." She pleaded, and for a moment when he looked at her, she thought she saw a shadow of tears. Then it was gone. "You say I didn't come after you. . . I tried. I was bearin my heart, and you walked away." He said pointing a finger in her face.

"How?" she started. "When?" she asked incredoulosly. He scoffed, "Right before you said you were leavin, right after she. . ." He fell quiet, and her face took on a more somber tone. She knew who he was talkin about. "You ain't got no reason, nor right comin and sayin all this now. I've got someone now." Her face said it all. "Who?" she asked. "I'm already sure you know. . ."

He walked off at that, leaving her staring at his retreating form, and tears falling down her face.

Everything felt like he was in a fog bank, he couldn't see, couldn't move, and all he had were the memories. . . Memories of all the ones I've failed. He thought pitifully. "You haven't failed me. . ." Came her quiet voice. He turned, tried to smile. "I guess you heard all that, huh?" She nodded, coming closer to him. The memories still haunted him, while she curled up next to him on the couch. Ma, the others. The people I told we'd make it outta that war together. Nandi. Sheperd Book. Wash. And now her. . . Somehow a tear slipped down his face, she gently reached up, and kissed it away. "So much pain. . .such horrible memories."

He looked at her, "What'd I tell you bout that, girl?" He asked teasingly. She smiled, a smile that could light up the verse itself. " What?" she asked innocently. "Oh, now don't even try to play that card! I see right through ya!" With that he grabbed her, and began to mercilessly tickle her. She sqealed, "Stop! Stop, that's not fair!" He just replied, "What? Whatcha gonna do bout it?" Peals of laughter from them both echoed through the ship.
