Love Remains The Same

He'd seen her strike the same pose a thousand times. Every fiber of her being was drawn to finding the truth. Every time she was out of his sight, he felt the urge to race after her. Since their time in Greece, they'd grown closer. He pushed his thoughts away and returned to the present moment, where she was standing in front of him. Something was different between them. Her green eyes drew him in until all he could see was her.

He was tired of pretending. They could fall apart tomorrow and he would regret every moment of not telling her what was in his heart. After Claire's death, he'd thought that he didn't have anymore to give to anyone. He thought that she was his one chance at something special. There were others after her, but no one could compare to Claire, or Stella for that matter. He hadn't realized that he had fallen in love with his best friend until he'd separated from Peyton. She had been close, but she was the moment in his life when he knew that he would always compare her to Stella. Greece solidified his feelings for her, and brought out her feelings for him, in some small way.

He took her hand and led her out of the office. He needed some time alone with her. He had looked back at his life, all the points where he'd deliberately gone without her, and hated himself for wasting so much time. He took her to a small café and bought them dinner. Not much was said, just some polite conversation to fill the void. She knew something was up, but was content to be in his presence and wait it out.

They walked together for a while, through the bright lights of the city. Finally they stopped, under the neon signs, next to the rushing traffic, and among the busy bustle of Times Square. He told her with his heart, with his words, with his eyes, and with his body, just how much he loved her, and how they would always be friends and lovers, because love was always the same.
