There was massive bang and the door flew off its hinges landing with solid wump on the worn and dusty floor. She leapt to her feet knocking over her chair. He stepped over the felled door into the barren and dank room. They looked upon one another and the silent seconds stretched slowly into minutes. Finally he took a step toward her. She took a stepped back and he smirked

"Well it that how you greet and old friend."

She looked away from his intense gaze "I'm not stupid you shouldn't be here." Her voice was unusually small.

There was another long silence

"Why…" she began and was cut off when in a single movement he swept across the room and kissed her.

For a stunned moment she did nothing as they were locked together and then returned it. Tears spilled from her long barren eyes down her cheeks.

Their arms lingered on one another for what seem like eternity before he pulled away and held her face in his hands. She looked into his sad eyes for just a moment before throwing her arms around his neck.

Her brain never registered the inner turmoil screaming agony from within those deep blue eyes until the searing pain assaulted her back and the blade severed her spine. She gasped, little more than a sharp intake of breath, and went ridged in his arms.

"How could you do this to me?" she whispered before her legs gave way.

His hand, still around the hilt as she crumpled, ripped the blade free and it clattered across the floor. Blood poured onto his hands and arms from the ragged wound as he caught her.

He held her limp form close, his fingernails digging into her paling arms and knuckles white and trembling with grief and regret as the life slowly faded away from her lazy lidded eyes.

The life he had loved and the life he had taken away.

"DAMN IT!" He screamed "Just make it go away."
