What Really Matters
Disclaimer: no own it.
A/N: For LC's b-day. Birthday present number 3.
Shawn lay in his hospital bed, staring blankly out of the window with his good eye. He had come very close to losing the eye this time. He sighed and reached up to touch the bandage covering it. He wouldn't know for a day or two whether he'd been blinded in that eye by Chris' brutal attack. The thought scared him. It would end his career. He loved wrestling. There was only one thing he loved more and he was stuck in Orlando.
Damn TNA. Not letting his lover come see him while he was in the hospital. They worked their employees like dogs down there according to his lover. Even when he wasn't part of that night's show, they wanted him there. Shawn missed him. They hadn't seen eachother in nearly eight months: too long for any couple to be apart. It wasn't fair.
As he thought that, a visitor quietly slipped into the room. Shawn sighed again.
"I need you Steve." he mumbled.
"Well I'm glad to hear it." the visitor said, making his presence known. "And here I was feeling unwanted, the way you seemed to have been ignoring me."
Shawn rolled over and looked into the face of his lover Steven Borden also known to wrestling fans as The Icon: Sting.
"Stevie! You're here!" Shawn said, shocked. The Stinger sat down on the edge of the hospital bed and planted a kiss on his boyfriend's forehead.
"Of course I am Shawnie, what kind of boyfriend would I be to stay away while my lover was laid up in the hospital?" he asked incredulously, smiling down at Shawn.
"But I thought TNA Management told you to stay put." Shawn said confused.
"They did. And I told them to shove it. If they don't like it, they can fire me. See how the fans will react to that little developement." Steve replied, smirking.
"Ratings will plummet!" Shawn laughed. "You and Kev are really all that's keeping TNA afloat."
"And Jay-Jay and AJ! They'll be offended that you forgot them." Sting teased.
"Let Blondy and Runt be offended. Speaking of which, is Jay-Jay ok after that glass table? I haven't gotten a chance to talk to him." Shawn asked, concerned for his young friend.
"He's fine. Sore but fine." his lover assured him. "How about you? What's the word on your eye?"
Sting started stroking his hair as Shawn took a deep breath.
"I dunno yet. I'll find out in a few days. They said I could be blind. I'm scared Steve." Shawn whispered, feeling completely vulnerable.
"Shhhh I know you are." Steve soothed, wrapping his arms around Shawn's shoulders. "It'll turn out ok. You see."
"You can't know that!" Shawn exclaimed, starting to cry. Steve immediately moved so he was completely on the bed with Shawn curled up on his lap. He rubbed his boyfriend's back, rocking him alittle.
"Hush Baby, calm down. I'm here. No matter how this turns out I'll still love you. I'll still be here. If you can't wrestle, I'll take you to TNA with me. You can hang out with me and Kevin, and AJ, and Jay-Jay. They'll all still love you too. We'll support you the whole way, no matter what."
"Promise?" Shawn sniffed, clinging to his lover for his support.
"I promise Baby. You're stuck with me 'til the day you die." Steve assured him. Shawn nodded and buried his face in Steve shirt. Steve rubbed his back until Shawn was completely limp and relaxed in his arms.
"You're mine Baby, mine forever." Steve whispered.
"No complaints here." Shawn mumbled. They sat like that for hours, ignoring the rest of the world around them. None of it mattered. All that mattered was the two of them, together once more.
End!
