"Jane!" Maura whined, shaking her wife awake in the darkness of their bedroom.

"Mmm," Jane groaned, unhappy about being woken from such a peaceful sleep, which didn't happen much. She looked up at the alarm clock beside her side of the bed. "Maur, it's quarter past three in the morning," she moaned, turning over to face the blonde.

"The baby won't let me sleep. Can't I get up and watch some television? I could catch up on one of my documentaries."

"No, baby, the doctor said complete bed rest for your and the baby's health," the detective whispered back. "You know that. Since when do you try to defy doctor's orders, being a doctor yourself, huh?" she asked, rubbing her wife's eight month round bump. Smiling when she felt their baby move around within.

They didn't know the sex, they wanted to be surprised at the birth. They both had agreed to that from the beginning.

"Because I'm sick of being confined to a bed. I don't mind being on Maternity Leave but this is taking it too far," Maura whispered, beginning to sob. "My back hurts so bad, my ankles are so swollen, I'm constipated..."

Jane closed her eyes briefly, a smile on her face as she continued to rub Maura's belly, in effort to calm the baby down. "I love you, sweetie. But that's just too much information."

"I'm terrible with pain, Janie," Maura continued to sob, wanting cuddle into Jane and cry into her shoulder but her big pregnant belly prevented her from doing so and it was making her sob more. "My back hurts so bad."

Jane sighed, feeling bad for her wife. "Sit up, baby," she crooned, sitting up first.

Maura tried but was struggling, so Jane helped her up before sitting behind her, putting her long, elegant legs on other side of the heavily pregnant blond. Jane very gently but firmly started to rub her wife's back, being sure to focus on her lower back, where the baby would be in particularly putting added strain.

Enjoying the rub, Maura moaned contently, leaning forward but trying to push back into Jane's soothing hands. "Oh, that feels so good," she purred, rubbing her hands around her bump before hissing in pain.

Jane stopped in an instant. "Sorry, baby, sorry."

"Not you," Maura replied through clenched teeth.

Jane moved around and put her hands on her partner's belly. "What's wrong?"

"Baby," she groaned.

"Time? Now? It's too early, Maur."

Maura shook her head before sighing in relief. "Just a Braxton Hicks contraction and the baby just decided to kick hard at the same time," she explained, reaching up and cupping Jane's face in her hand. "Sorry, gorgeous. Didn't mean to worry you."

"You terrified me but it's okay, baby. Not your fault." Jane kissed her on the lips softly before sitting behind Maura again, and starting to massage her back again.

It didn't take long for Maura to fall asleep and not wanting to wake her partner up, Jane allowed Maura to sleep on her, she just moved back slowly, bringing her with her, so that they were both laying down. She listened to Maura's soft breathing and cradled her wife's bump as she fell asleep with her.

It only felt like she'd only been asleep for a few minutes when Jane was woken to Maura softly calling and shaking her again.

The detective groaned and again she turned to look at the clock. 5:47am glared back at her this time. "Sweetie, what's wrong now?"

"I need to pee, Jane," Maura replied, still uncomfortable with the whole current toilet situation.

She had to use a bed pan and when she wanted to wash, Jane had to carry her to the bath. And as she got bigger, she watched her wife struggle more and more to just carry her that short distance. Maura felt like a burden but Jane kept insisting she wasn't. They had both decided they wanted children. They looked together for potential sperm donors before eventually choosing a doctor friend of Maura's. So Jane's egg was fertilized with the Obstetrician's sperm and was implanted in Maura's uterus. It took Maura a lot to convince Jane to use her egg for the baby because Maura wanted the baby to look so much like Jane. She wanted a tiny Jane.

They were surprised and glad when it took the first time. The Obstetrician was even Maura's OB, so it worked out well.

"Okay, Maur. Hold on," Jane said getting up.

"Hurry, Janie!" she begged, rubbing the underside of her belly.

Jane rushed to get it from the bathroom and rushed back before helping Maura, so that she could do her stuff.

"I want a bath, Jane," Maura then called to Jane as she emptied the bedpan in the bathroom.

Jane was exhausted but didn't want to tell Maura. She put down the metal pan and washed her hands before turning on the bath and getting it ready. As it filled, she leaned heavily against the basin and tried to ignore the pounding in her head, the aching in her back from carrying Maura around and closed her eyes, taking slow deep breaths.

"Jane," Maura called again. When she didn't receive an answer, she sat up with a struggle and put her legs over the side of the bed. "Jane! I'm getting out of bed!"

Jane's eyes snapped open. She had never seen or heard Maura be so stubborn. Maybe her own stubbornness was rubbing off on the doctor and it was scaring her.

She ran into the bedroom. "Don't you dare." The exhaustion crept up in her voice, against her will.

Maura stopped still at the sound of Jane's voice and looked up into her eyes. She gasped. The darkening of the naso-jugal folds gave away her exhaustion. "Oh, baby," she whispered, reaching out to the detective.

"What?" Jane asked, furrowed her brow, acting dumb.

"Come here, Janie," cooed Maura, still reaching out to her.

Slowly Jane walked closer to her. "What is it, sweetie?"

Maura pulled Jane as close to her as the baby would allow, looking up into her chocolate brown eyes. "Baby, I'm exhausting you," she stated honestly and sadly.

"No, you're not. You're the exhausted one, M. You're the one who's pregnant," replied Jane, trying to ignore her own needs.

Maura and the baby came first. They were the only two that mattered to her, as well as her parents and brother, Frankie.

"Yeah, but I'm running you ragged. J, you need sleep too and I'm n.." Maura couldn't even finish what she was saying, as Jane hearing the bath overflow ran into the bathroom to turn off the taps.

Maura ran her hands through her neatly brushed hair. Despite being on complete bed rest, she made sure to brush her hair several times a day, she hated knotty hair.

She looked up just in time to see Jane return but before she could say another word, Jane put her finger over her lips.

"Shhh," was all that Jane said as she exhaled a deep breath to prepare herself before picking up a very heavy, pregnant Medical Examiner.

Maura rested her head on Jane's head and whispered very softly. "I'm sorry, JJ." JJ was Maura's special name for Jane. Nobody else was allow to call Jane, 'JJ'.

Frankie tried to once as a joke and Jane nearly kicked his ass. Jane made it well known that only her wife could call her 'JJ'.

"No more sorrys, M. No more. We're in this together," Jane said softly as she very gently stood Maura on the floor. "Arms up."

Maura did as she was told and Jane helped her out of her top and maternity bra.

"Wow," Jane smirked as she ran her hands over Maura's bare belly.

"What?" asked Maura, placing her hands over Jane's.

"You've grown over night. You look like you're about to explode." She giggled and leaned down, resting an ear on a patch of stretched skin. "Hey baby. It's your Mama here. Me and Mommy can't wait to meet you," she cooed, rubbing the spot in front of her face, smiling as she felt Maura run her slender fingers through her unruly, dark brown hair.

"JJ, sorry to interrupt 'Mama and Baby time' but I'm cold, babe."

"Oh gosh, sorry, M, couldn't help it," she apologized and helped her out of her pants and undies before helping her into the tub.

"Mmm," Maura moaned, happily. Baths always helped a little.

Jane sat down on a towel in her usual spot beside the tub.

"I think I've thought of the perfect name if it's a girl," Maura whispered, slowly opening her eyes to look at Jane.

"Yeah?"

Maura nodded. "Jaylyn."

"Jaylyn?" Jane asked, tilting her head slightly to the side.

Smiling, Maura reached out and tapped Jane's nose. "Jay from JJ or Jane, either way after you... And I love the name Jaylyn," she explained.

Having giving it a little thought, Jane replied, "I like it. Jaylyn Maura Rizzoli-Isles."

"Maura?... Janie..." Maura groaned.

"Hey! You gave the first name, I put forward the middle," Jane laughed.

Maura couldn't help but laugh too. "Jaylyn Maura... I actually like it. It's different. But what about if it's a boy?"

"Hmm, I'm still looking in the baby names book for that."

After a few moments of silence, Maura spoke up again. "Jane. Could you please get the cordless phone?"

Jane got up but asked, "Why?"

"I wanna call Mom," she replied simply.

"Which Mom? Mine or yours? And why in the tub?"

"Jane," Maura groaned. "Stop asking questions please. I would get it myself if I could."

It didn't take long for Jane to return with the phone. She passed Maura a towel, so that she could dry her hands before handing her the phone. "I'll just be getting myself some coffee, then I'll help you out before I get ready for work," she told Maura with a kiss before walking out.

Maura sighed. "I wish you'd stay home, JJ... You're exhausted and it's my fault," she whispered to herself before dialling in a familiar number into the phone and waited for it to be answered on the other side. "Ma Rizzoli. I need your help... No, the baby and I are fine. Please come around... Thanks so much. Love you too..."
