Roya dies from a incurable disease and Zed loses the will to live when he feels he is the only person left in the world. Post AU KI-BA series

Before You Read

Need something angst-y to write. I'm not feeling too hot right now, so... yeah.

This takes place in an alternet universe where Zed doesn't fuse with Amil Gaoul. Instead, he gives up the spirit and stays in Templar with his friends.

On with the story.

What Is Goodbye?

"Goodbye."

Goodbye? Why must it be goodbye? He couldn't stand the pain. It hurt so much. All those times, all the people who died. Friends, family...Mickey and Pinot leaves town to work elsewhere, Noah returns to Neotopia to help rebuild, Zico is dead, and now she must go. Fate tortures me.

He's all alone in this world. Would it matter if he stayed in Templar or returned to Calm? He would suffer the same way. He is all alone in this world with the agonizing pain of failure, loss, and loneliness.

Would it matter if he lives? Would it matter if he dies?

She was all he had left. And now she's gone. Roya's gone. And he can't find any light in the forever dark tunnel. He's slowly dying on the inside; soon to be someone else.

He clenchs Roya's spirit, Aphqurelle, in one hand. Mickey's old dagger held in the other. Noah's birthday present hanging by his waist. Walking slowly, tears streaming down his cheeks. His three closest friends had left him, but he still had something of them.

Under the shade of the old windmill, he glances over Templar once. He inserts three brown shards into Mickey's old dagger and it springs to life. Where they would watch the village in the day and the stars at night. The only place he never felt alone.

End the pain. A voice says in his head. Death will free you.

He aims the dagger at his chest, one hand around the handle and the other on the end, ready to end his life.

He takes a deep breath and drives the dagger through his heart. He falls backward into the soft grass. He stares into the night stars as his life slowly fades.

What is goodbye? He thinks to himself. The end? To lose someone forever?

He pretends he is lying in the grass with his friends, but illusion fails and he knows he is all alone, bleeding on the grass. He pulls the dagger from his chest and allows his hand to fall to the side, holding the dagger close in his hand.

As his eyes close, Zed can only think of one thing; What is goodbye? The end? This is our separation of paths? This is where we will see each other last?

Or was it something more hopeful? Something that could show him a light? A small light. Barely visible, but there. Goodbye was a sign. Goodbye was a promise.

We will meet again soon.

I promise.

THE END

After Notes

I don't know where any of this came from. Often, I just need to write. And writing I do. And it's often sad. What a crappy ending.
