You know that you can teach a child almost everything, if you don't tell them it's impossible? A three-years-old can read fluently, swim as a fish, and shoot as well. That means, not as a fish. As a. Um. Not a fish. Forget it.

If you tell him that's easy and fun, and everybody can do it; if you don't wait till the kid's flexibility stiffens some precious years later... you'll have me. 'Cause that's my case.

I'm not a freaking genius. I'm just some not wasted years ahead of the rest. For what reason everybody waits until the best time ends, I cannot fathom. Jay didn't.

Although if he ever tried to turn me into the social butterfly, he'd have failed. Butterflies are not his favourite species, I guess. Well, honestly, he attempted to socialize me a little bit. A little bit too late. Poor Jay.

I stood stiffly in front of him, having just reported my mission. For reasons unknown Jay wasn't satisfied.

Heero, there's one part of your report I couldn't quite understand. Why did you rip down the invitation from that girl?

To express my disagreement.

This was the part of the mission I was particularly proud of – not only coping on the social level, but also avoiding blowing my cover, and following my emotions. Jay, though seemed unconcerned.

Was the polite "no, thanks" insufficient?

Wouldn't be. She seemed very insistent, thus the invitation's destruction rendered my participation in the party not possible.

My tutor was strangely depressed.

Heero, for God's sake! She could have printed another one!

The realisation hit me upon the head. She could have. Damn.

Oh. This factor has not been taken into the consideration. – I admitted humbly.

Later I had the same kind of conversation concerning such social subtleties as: an overuse of the formal vocabulary in non-report utterances, a little "How to Pleasantly React Having Your Life Saved" guide, and the moral implications of stealing from our allies and self-dubbed friends.

You see? Not a genius at all.
