"You need to leave!" Kate pushed Daniel towards the door.
"I'm going with you. You are not going to do this alone!" Daniel was adamant, standing his ground.
This gave Kate pause. Despite the situation they were in, she couldn't help but stop for a moment to acknowledge what Daniel had just said. He cared. He wanted to stay with her. Her wanted her safe. But, no.
"I'll be fine! But you won't be if you don't leave. Take those stairs; they'll lead you to the alley. Meet me in Millennium Park in a few hours, alright? Meet me there and we'll work it out, okay?" She turned to go.
"Kate, wait wait wait!" Daniel grabbed her arm.
Kate knew that if they did not leave now, they would lose their chance. She spun back around to tell him so. "Daniel! I-" She lost the ability to speak when she realized how close he was to her, when she noticed the look in his eyes as he gazed at her, like he was trying to memorize every detail of her face. Like it was the last time he would ever see it. There were so many things she needed, things she wanted, to say. But she couldn't speak. Her thoughts, on the other hand, were screaming.
"We need to move, we need to go, we need to leave, we need to do something, and- oh! Oh my g-" And just like that, her mind went completely blank, because then, in that moment, she was kissing the man she loved.
She became lost inside herself, lost inside the pit in which she had been trying to bury these feelings for so long. She was in deep, set adrift in his arms.
When Daniel pulled away from her, she was in a fog. Astonished. She was captivated. When he touched her face, she saw his expression, and knew he was feeling the same. He turned on his heel and ran to the stairs.
The trained agent within Kate was happy to see him go, happy that they would escape, that she could get into her car and drive away. But it wasn't that simple. The woman she was leaned against the vehicle, still in blissful shock, touching her lips in disbelief. This woman was dangerous. This woman would risk getting caught if it meant she could call him back and throw her arms around him and never let go. This woman wouldn't care of the repercussions if it meant she could relive those last few moments. This woman... was in love.
Kate shook it off, turned off her emotions and became an FBI agent once again. She jumped into the sedan and sped off to the company, placated by the promise of Millennium Park at sunrise.
