Ahhh... Heck. XX This is some random little oneshot I wrote. Really, it's somewhat stupid, but I guess I'm sort of trying to cure my terrible, terrible writer's block by getting something written and posted if there's any chance anyone will like it. I've been getting way into Trauma Center again, and I may or may not have gotten this particular idea from the Naruto Fanflash, but ah well.

...I've been trying to get a proper Trauma Center fic written for ages. I've got a bit of motivation now, so hopefully this helps.

And hopefully you enjoy this nevertheless. Note, you likely won't understand it unless you've played TC2.

Sidney Kasal followed the booming music through halls and doors until he finally walked in on Dr. Derek Stiles, lounging in his own office - his as in Sidney's, for some reason he wasn't informed to - with an empty chair across from him and a speaker playing the start of a song by the Killers, eyes shut, listening catatonically, completely unaware of his surroundings.

"Ah... Dr. Stiles?"

I'm breaking my back just to know your name...

Derek didn't move.

"Dr. Stiles," Sidney repeated more firmly.

...Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game...

He was still drowned out.

"For heaven's sake... DR. STILES!"

Derek leaped up instantly. In a cartoon moment his eyes snapped open and he looked frantically around the room until the source of the voice that snapped him back into the real world was identified.

...I'm breaking my back just to know your name, but heaven ain't close in a place like this...

The surgeon caught his breath, smiling awkwardly. "Hi, Chief," he mumbled, "Sorry about that."

...Anything goes, but don't blink, you might miss...

Sidney couldn't suppress a sigh. "Derek, what are you doing?"

"Waiting for Nurse Ross." He tumbled back into his chair, this time not falling half asleep. "We were supposed to meet here to discuss a procedure later, since Dr. Clarks has been borrowing Angie all day."

...'Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this, I said, no, anything goes in a place like this...

"Yes, Derek, but this is my office..." The chief fidgeted in the most subtle way he could, placing a finger on the bridge of his glasses, slowly sliding them up. "Can you tell me when she'll be here?"

"Any second now, I swear."

...Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight...

And of course, right then, Heather Ross marched straight in, a bounce in her step, and took her seat across from the surgeon. "Hello, Derek! What did you want to tell me?"

...Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight...

"Well..." Derek said, and paused.

It was a pause that allowed Heather to focus her full attention on the speaker.

...But somebody told me... You had a boyfriend... Who looks like a girlfriend-

Her eyes narrowed. "Very funny, Derek."

Derek's forehead shoved into his palm.

That's all she wrote. Again, I do hope you enjoyed it!
