Disclaimer: Briar Moss, and all of the characters mentioned except one or two whom I have yet to name, belong to Tamora Pierce, as do the locations where this story takes place. I own the plot, though. :)

Prologue:
Briar Moss was not born in Emelan. In fact, he wasn't quite sure where he was born, though he guessed it was somewhere in Deadman's District in Hajra, Sotat. He didn't know when he was born, though he celebrated his birthday on the 19th of Goose Moon. The only things Briar actually knew for sure about his past was that he was somewhere around 18, that he had lived with his mother, whom he barely remembered (she had worked in an inn somewhere nearby), and not his father somewhere in Deadman's District in Hajra. He knew that his father most likely didn't know of his son's existence. He knew that his mother had been killed in a dark alleyway when he was around four, that he was shortly afterwards kicked out of where he lived, and that he had spent around six years after that in a gang called the Lightenings, using the name Roach, and stealing for the Thief Lord. After being caught three times, he was sent to Winding Circle under the supervision of one Master Niklaren Goldeye, met Dedicate Rosethorn, Dedicate Lark, Lady Sandrilene fa Toren, Trisana Chandler, and Daja Kisubo, found out he was a mage, along with all of the aforementioned people, and the rest was history.

Outwardly, Briar cared very little about the gaping holes in his past. He hadn't even wanted a birthday, though his foster-siblings had insisted on him choosing one so they could throw him a party, and he had finally chosen the day he had officially gone from being "Roach" to being "Briar Moss." Inwardly, however, he did wonder where he came from. Who wouldn't? However, he had absolutely no way of finding out anything, so dwelling on this lack of information would be stupid. He did still wonder, though.

Then, one day, Briar met an old woman who had owned an inn in Deadman's District in Hajra, Sotat, and his world was turned upside down...

AN: So, what does everyone think of this story line? Would you all read it? Should I continue? Review and tell me what you think. If I get five reviews, I'll post Chapter 1.
