Hinata Hajime lay tossing and turning on his bed in his private tropical cabin.
Merely hours ago the whole group of sixteen high-schoolers, Hinata included, were enjoying their day at the beach...
Sure, there was nothing normal about them being trapped on this island to begin with... but for a little while, it felt normal.
So, how...how did this happen?
How were they all so suddenly...so suddenly filled with despair?
The feeling of despair that Hinata and surely the others felt right now, all began with the appearance of a black and white teddy bear named Monokuma.
It... or he preached about them all...killing one another like it was some sort of game...
Killings?
Surely nothing like that would happen!
Hinata sat up, sweating all over his bed.
If only he had someone he could trust indefinitely...
Suddenly, there was a knock on Hinata's door.
Who might be knocking? It had to be past midnight by now...
Hinata's eye widened.
Surely it wasn't somehow here to...to kill him!?
Hinata cleared his throat and approached the door.
"W-who is it?" He said loudly.
"Hajime? It's me Komaeda Nagito..." Komaeda's voice came from the other side of the door.
Hinata sighed with relief.
He had spent all day with Komaeda exploring the island, so he felt a little at ease at the sound of his voice.
For a moment, he forgot all about the idea of killings taking place, and he opened the door.
Surely enough, Komaeda Nagito stood outside of the cottage. The moonlight was reflecting off of his pale skin and hair.
"I'm sorry to bother you like this, at this hour...but could I come in for a second?" He asked.
Hinata nodded, forgetting to even consider that he could be putting himself in... danger.
As Komaeda stepped into the light of Hinata's cabin, Hinata couldn't help but notice dark circles under his eyes.
Clearly he hadn't slept a wink either.
"What's up Nagito?" Hinata asked him, after Komaeda shut/locked his door.
"I know this sounds crazy...but do you think we're actually meant to start killing each other? Like this is our pre-determined fate or something?" Komaeda's voice was low and somber.
What the hell?
Hinata was not expecting such a deep question like that at this time of night.
"I...I believe that we don't live in a world that is that messed up where our predetermined fates...would be to kill each other in some sick game... like that freakish stuffed animal suggested." replied Hinata, after a moment.
Komaeda was silent for a long moment.
It looked like he was thinking...
"Alright. Thanks for giving me your opinion." Komaeda said with a sudden genuine and warm smile.
What a weird shift in moods...
Komaeda began walking towards Hinata's front door.
For some reason, Hinata's stomached churned at the thought of Komaeda leaving him alone again.
"Hey uhm..." Hinata spoke up. "Are you going to be alright sleeping alone tonight?"
Shit...that did not come out right...
Komaeda paused. "...What exactly are you suggesting?"
"I...I mean...I just meant..." Hinata found himself suddenly flustered.
"I'm only teasing." Komaeda laughed. "You know, I would feel a lot better staying with a friend. Of course, I didn't want to impose...but since you basically just suggested it..."
Hinata let out an internal sigh of relief.
"Right! Yes! That is totally what I was suggesting!" Hinata said quickly.
"Normally I'd say 'that was a pretty quick response there'...but...I think I've teased you enough for one night." Komaeda winked.
Hinata couldn't help himself from blushing.
Maybe that was a quick response...
"In all seriousness though...thanks for inviting me to stay. I will actually feel a lot better." Komaeda said with his warm smile again.
Why was Hinata's chest tightening all of the sudden while looking at his smile? Was it from all the teasing moments ago?
"Yeah, no problem." nodded Hinata.
Komaeda removed his long green overcoat.
"Well, I'll gladly sleep on the floor if you'll lend me a pillow." Komaeda told him.
"Oh no! I basically asked you to stay here...you can have to bed. I'll sleep on the floor. " Hinata replied. He walked over to the bed and took one of the pillows off it.
"No way! I can't allow someone like you to give up your bed." Komaeda insisted, snatching the pillow from Hinata's hands.
Hinata grabbed Komaeda's wrist suddenly. "If we can't agree, we'll just share the bed then."
Hinata immediately blushed at his own words and dropped Komaeda's wrist.
"Now, that was a quick response." Komaeda winked.
"Y-yeah okay." Hinata tried to blow it off by crossing the room to turn off the lights. "At least we'd both sleep comfortably with my quick response."
"Alright. It's fine by me." said Komaeda.
Shit...Hinata was not...expecting Komaeda to agree to it.
"R-right then." Hinata crawled into bed. "To...sleeping comfortably."
"Yeah, about that..." Komaeda said suddenly. "Do you care if I take my pants off? I sleep the best pants-less."
Honestly...so did Hinata.
But, he did not have the balls to even ask about removing his pants after all of the accidental suggestive shit he had said so far...
Komaeda had laid it out on the table now though...
"That's fine. I'm the same way actually..." admitted Hinata.
"Oh? But you didn't ask about taking yours off?" Komaeda cocked his head as he removed his black skinny jeans.
"Well I just thought it...be...too...you know..." Hinata was flustered again.
"OHHH! I get it! You didn't want to be anymore suggestive then you've already accidentally been tonight!" Komaeda teased.
"At least you get it was an accident." Hinata slipped his pants off and pushed them to the bottom of the bed while laying on his back.
Komaeda got into the bed and under the covers next to him.
Hinata immediately closed his eyes.
"Do I though?" Komaeda said with a cute yawn while settling in.
Hinata's eyes bolted open.
Komaeda was laying on his side, facing away from Hinata. "Goodnight Hajime." His voice was sleepy.
"Y-yeah...goodnight." Hinata manged to say.
Crap! What was going on? Was it all because he felt tired?
The Next Morning...
Hinata managed to eventually fall asleep.
He awoke the next day to the sound of his mounted television clicking on loudly.
"Goooooood morning! Today looks like it's going to be another perfect tropical day so..."
That voice... a voice he wished he could forget...it was the voice of the demonic stuffed bear from yesterday.
"Hmmm? So yesterday wasn't a dream then..." Another familiar voice said.
Hinata opened his eyes.
He was immediately greeted with a face-full of Komaeda's pure white curly hair.
"Hey Hajime...not that I mind you spooning me...but we should probably get up soon. It seems like that was some sort of morning announcement."
What!?
Hinata was VERY wide awake now, and VERY aware of the fact that he was INDEED spooning Komaeda.
"Sorry!" Hinata let go and inched away.
Shit...he even had a boner and... surely...Komaeda felt it.
"Like I said..." Komaeda sat up and rubbed the sleepy out of his pale grey eyes. "Not that I mind..."
"Nagito I..." Hinata wasn't sure what he was going to say...but he had to say something.
"Save any further flirting for later. We should probably meet up with the others...since it seems yesterday was real." Komaeda slid out of bed.
"Y-you're right." Hinata pulled his own black skinny jeans on, quickly tucking himself. Then, he slid out of bed as well.
"Oh, so there will be more flirting later then?" Komaeda winked.
Man, he was great at shifting moods...
Hinata picked up Komaeda's black skinny jeans and launched them at him.
"Hurry up. You were the one who said meet up with the others." Hinata dodged the topic.
"You're right." Komaeda put on his pants.
They were about to head out when Komaeda grabbed the back of Hinata's shirt all of the sudden.
"Thanks for letting me stay here last night." Komaeda's voice was softer than any other time he had spoken thus far. "I-It really did help."
Hinata gulped. "Of course." He said, his voice cracking.
His heart was racing.
What was this feeling? And why had it overcome him so fast?
Maybe it was because he felt like Komaeda was the only person he really could trust for the time being? Or maybe...it was because of something else completely.
Either way...he didn't have time to think about it right now.
Hours Later...
The meet up went surprisingly okay. Every ate breakfast together...and agreed to act under Byakuga's rule for the time being.
He stepped up promising no one would die, so it seemed like the right call...
It was what happened after the meeting that left Hinata feeling a bit...jarred again.
Everyone followed Byakuga to Jabberwock Park where he showed them the giant...countdown machine he had discovered earlier that morning apparently.
No one could say for sure what it was...but it clearly looked...bomb-like.
Once everyone decided to split up again for awhile...Hinata found himself making his way back to his cabin.
Was he falling into a routine already? One where he hid inside his cabin all day?
The group had decided to band together today...and work as a team.
Hinata really didn't have anything to fear...at least when it came to everyone else in the group.
...Right?
Hinata decided he'd go to the beach.
Maybe someone else will have ended up there and they could go swimming!
He turned around and began heading back towards the beach.
In a few minutes or less, he arrived.
It was nice having a beach so close to where he was staying.
"Oh hi there Hajime!" Komaeda was sitting under a palm tree. "Wow! We both ended up on this beach...alone...again? This has to be fate."
CRAP! Hinata was not prepared to face Komaeda alone again after this morning!
"Actually...I just stopped by for a second..." Hinata began to say.
"Aw...and here I thought we could go swimming or something..." said Komaeda in a disappointed tone.
Why was Hinata avoiding him? He had gone there to swim...surely he could swim with Komaeda...right? No problem.
"I guess swimming for a little would be...okay." Hinata said.
Then Hinata thought to himself.
Wait...for some reason...he hadn't brought a swim suit. And Komaeda clearly didn't have one either.
"Well...as long as you aren't too busy..." Komaeda smiled.
"Did we both come to the beach without our swimsuits?" Hinata laughed.
"Seems like it." nodded Komaeda. "Luckily, there are other ways to swim!" He began stripping.
"HEY WAI-" Hinata covered his eyes as Komaeda removed everything, including his underwear.
"Since we only get one pair of clothes, it'd be a shame to get them wet. That includes underwear!" Komaeda said before running into the ocean.
"That's...THAT'S PRETTY RECKLESS!" Hinata shouted, uncovering his as he heard Komaeda splashing around in the water. "WHAT IF THE REST OF THE GROUP DECIDES TO COME FOR A SWIM!?"
"WITH MY LUCK, NO ONE WILL STOP BY HERE FOR THE REST OF THE AFTERNOON! TRUST ME!" Komaeda shouted back at him.
Hinata took a deep breath.
He would have to just trust Komaeda's ultimate talent...
Hinata began stripping. Once he was naked as well, he ran into the water after Komaeda.
"Your talent better work." Hinata blushed, now naked in the ocean next to Komaeda.
"We basically discovered a bomb earlier. Believe me, it'll work." Komaeda replied.
"I...don't follow...?" Hinata said in a confused tone.
"Oh! Right...how could you! See my talent...it works like this: something unlucky happened to me and then something lucky follows soon after." Komaeda began to explain.
"Like yesterday: we found out we might have to all kill each other...unlucky. Then you invited me to spend the night...lucky."
Hinata tried to wrap his head around it. "So today: we maybe discovered a giant bomb...unlucky...and now..."
"The two of us get to swim naked...and uninterrupted." Komaeda finished Hinata's sentence.
Hinata blushed. "You know...you're kind a flirty guy..."
"Only towards you Hajime." Komaeda smiled his warm smile.
Hinata gulped. "You should really watch saying that kinda stuff..."
"Why? It's true..." Komaeda pouted.
"W-why me?" Hinata asked, he could barely believe it. "I mean...I can't even remember what my talent is..."
"It doesn't matter that you can't remember your talent right now! You see...there's a mass amount of hope buried deep inside you... I could sense it the moment we first locked eyes, on this very beach! And that to me...is very appealing." Komaede winked.
Hinata's heart was racing.
He couldn't remember his past...or his own talent...but Komaeda made him feel like none of that mattered...
Like all that mattered...was what was happening right here...right now...
Like...
"You should really watch saying that kinda stuff..." was all Hinata could manage to repeat before he reached out and pulled Komaeda in close.
"Hajime..." Komaeda was suddenly blushing.
He couldn't hesitate now...
Hinata leaned in and quickly pressed his lips against Komaeda's.
Maybe this was fate...
