Hello, dear reader/fellow Clannad lover!
I was introduced to the wonderful, heartbreaking, laugh inducing, anime Clannad by a friend of mine. I was hooked after the first five minutes of the first episode. We spent an entire day getting just watching it on Netflix in my basement. (Too bad Netflix took it off!) I just think Nagisa is the absolute cutest thing in the entire world. I just love her, and of course Tomoya too! So here is my attempt at a cute little scene between them.
Thanks for taking the time to read it!
"I'm sorry for making you come all of the way out here, Okazaki." Nagasi apologizes while carefully counting money in the register. At school, all of their friends are most likely practicing for the upcoming School Festival, which is where she should be, but instead, had promised her parents she'd run the family bakery. And of course, Tomoya decided to go with her.
"I couldn't let you be here by yourself." Tomoya replies as he sweeps the front entrance. It's a quiet, breezy, afternoon. It felt nice to be spending time here instead of with his merry band of delinquent friends. "Where are Sanae and the Old Man?"
"There is a neighborhood baseball game going on at the park. Dad is the lead pitcher tonight." Nagisa explains after placing the correctly counted bills back into the register She steps out from behind the counter to start strolling around, straightening the baked goods as she passes. It doesn't take long for her to start humming 'The Big Dango Family' song. Tomoya finds himself watching her, drinking in all of her optimism. She is always so happy, and it puzzles him greatly.
And it bugs Tomoya to no end.
There isn't much he cares for in his life. His Mom is dead, Dad a deadbeat. School is his least favorite place in the world, and his friends are all morons. But despite all of this, despite all of the hardships, ever since he's met Nagisa Furukawa, she's sparked a fire of immense interest.
She absolutely boggles his mind.
"Why are you always so happy?" He blurts without much thinking.
"What was that, Okazaki?" She calls out from the other side of the store. Tomoya stares at her for a moment before he sighs. Nagisa can feel her heart beat start creeping up when she notices that specific look in his dark blue eyes. She's frozen in place as he comes up and stops in front of her.
"Why are you always so happy?" He repeats slowly to make sure she fully understands him.
Um," She begins unsurely. Tomoya can tell she's nervous because her cheeks are starting to turn a light pink color. He has to bite his tongue to keep from making a comment. "The best way to make yourself happy, is to try and make others happy."
She forces herself to look up at him with her honey colored eyes.
"I know I'm weak, and a bit of a crybaby, but I like making people happy, I like seeing others smile."
"I see," Tomoya replies quietly. "Well, you do a pretty good job of it," He admits with a careless shrug. He doesn't miss the way his words perked Nagisa right up. "You shouldn't force it though, it's okay for you to get upset every once in a while." He reminds her.
"Hello? Is anybody here?"
At the sound of the voice, Nagisa puts on a welcoming smile and walks up to greet the customer with a slight bow.
"Welcome to the Furukawa Bakery. How may I help you?"
Tomoya subtly watches as Nagisa shows the woman around, suggesting a variety of the different pastries. The whole entire time she's beaming and there's a slight bounce in her step.
His lips start to pull back until he's sprouting his own special kind of smile.
"You really are one of a kind, Nagisa."
