Death

I ran as fast as my feet would take me. Gasping for breath, but I couldn't stop now. I had to finish. I just had to. Every step I took, it brought me nowhere. When it stepped toward me my breaths shortened. It dragged a long scythe, and like nails on a chalkboard, stone on blade. My ears rang and I stumbled. It scampered to me and swung. Flesh escaped my bones, my neck unhinged and suddenly I couldn't see.

I was somewhere else. It was dark. Silent. There were others, yet there weren't. I was lonely and felt tired. I tried walking but I was as heavy as lead. It came out of nowhere. I knew who or what it was. I met what everyone fears the most. The greatest fear.
