Chapter 1: The Prologue
Harry Potter was in no way considered normal. Harry was a wizard, and not just any old wizard, he was the boy-who-lived. At this point in time, Harry was back at home with his 'family'. The only thing that Harry can think of is how his godfather Sirius Black was recently killed after the incident at the Department of Mysteries.
"Why did I have to be so stupid? I should have just used the mirror."
Such thoughts have plagued Harry as he falls in a far from blissful sleep. He was back at the Department of Mysteries and he had just watched Sirius fall through the veil once again.
'NOOOOOO!'
Harry woke up sweating and out of breath.
"I hope I don't wake up the Dursley's…"
Sure enough, fate wasn't on Harry's side today as Vernon Dursley walked in the door.
"BOY! What have I told you about waking us up?"
Oh, shit. I'm really going to get it now…
"I'm sorry, Uncle Vernon. I just had another nightmare."
"And I've just had it with you!"
With that, Vernon Dursley brought in a belt and chains. He chained Harry to the 'bed' and started to beat Harry with the belt. Many sickening cracks and breaks could be heard after Uncle Vernon hit Harry with the belt. Unfortunately for Harry, Vernon Dursley was not done for the night. Tonight, he wanted to teach Harry a lesson, one that he would never forget. Vernon continued to beat Harry by using him as a personal punching bag. Along the way cracks and breaks were sure to come from his ribs, but the worst was when Uncle Vernon personally stepped right on Harry's ankle. This act guaranteed that Harry was not going anywhere after the repeated breaks in his foot.
Vernon Dursley then realized that Harry needed to write to Dumbledore to say that he was safe every three days. So he broke every single bones in his fingers and wrists to make sure that writing to the headmaster would be as painful as possible.
"Let's see if you survive the night. Good riddance if you finally die." With that thought, Uncle Vernon finally called it a night.
About 24 hours later, Harry finally woke up. He crawled himself to Hedwig's cage and had her carry a message to Dumbledore. Of course, Harry could barely write with his broken fingers, so the message contained four words.
