A/N: Hi! This is Ivan! Here with my new story, Ripples in the Ocean. As this a trial, the prologue will be in present tense. Tell me if you thing I should continue like that or change it to a different kind, i.e. past tense. Anyway, this is more of a place holder than anything.

Disclaimer: I don't own Whistle! This is property of Diasuke Higuchi.

Summary: Drop a stone in the ocean and watch the ripples spread. A small change may seem small at first, but you only have to watch to see how it grows. Sho is ready to take her first step on the path to her dream.

Prologue: Drop a Stone

Kazamatsuri Sho loves to run.

She loves the feel of the wind running through her hair as she speeds along the sidewalk.

She loves the colors and shapes she sees as the scenery rushes by, blurring together the faster she goes.

She loves the sound of her feet pounding on the pavement, step after step after step.

She loves the feel of her muscles aching, telling her that she's getting stronger. Faster.

She loves the way her heart beats uncontrollably, sending shots of adrenaline through her.

She loves feeling the burn in her lungs, harsh breaths going in and out and in and out.

She loves the way her mind clears, all her worries leaving her, filling her with a feeling of utter calm.

She loves the feeling running gives her, the utter joy it brings.

She loves that running means she is getting better and better and better at soccer.

These reasons explain why Sho is up so early in the morning, running through the park while the rest of the world sleeps. The sun is just coming over the horizon, and the bird calls are beginning to start. Sho knows that it is time to start heading home, though she wishes she could remain here. But there are things to do, things she has to do but doesn't want to and things she wants to do but doesn't have to and even things she wants to do and has to do, but nevertheless, in the end she must be the one to do them.

She slows as she sees the apartment she shares with her brother come into view. Cooling down so her muscles don't seize up on her. Today is an important day. The first day of the rest of her life. She can't afford to mess up.

Sho reaches her brother's apartment and stops. Takes a deep breath with aching lungs. Reaches out. Pauses.

Out here – out here she's free. She has no responsibilities. She can do whatever she wants. So long as she keeps running.

But inside – inside she has obligations. Inside her actions have consequences. But inside there's also family and friends and soccer.

She takes another deep breath. Holds it. Grabs the knob. Turns. Pushes.

She is ready.
