Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

Author's Notes: ok… I have decided that I REALLY hate the phrase, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder" so I decided to just make serena go through it… oh… um, I might want to tell you all that this IS a Serena & Darien story, just not at the beginning…
Prologue
The door flew open as a young girl of 16 ran in. Her blond, unusually styled hair was flying behind her as she skidded to a halt before the dining room table where today's mail was stacked.
"He must have written me today! I haven't gotten a letter in weeks!" she rummaged through the small pile, before coming up with a letter addressed to herself. "Yes! I knew he would!"
She ripped the letter open and anxiously scanned all THREE pages for some mention of when he'd be coming back to Tokyo, and then she felt her heart go numb as she got to the middle of the last page. It seemed that he was… done with her. 'Serena, I know that we've been together for over a year now, and I did honestly believe myself to be in love with you… but that was before I came here. I have met many new people, and even a woman named Reika. You are a wonder, beautiful, bubbly young girl, and I do truly like you, but I've come to realize that I like you only as a sister. I believe that Reika is the one I'm supposed to be with… I know this must come as a shock, but in time I hope that you will see me as no more than a brother to you. I will be coming back next week, though, and we can talk then; I'll also be bringing Reika, and a new friend of mine named Darien. I've missed you & see you soon,

"No! I thought this would never happen to me!" Serena raced upstairs and flung herself on the bed, sobbing into her pillow. "I don't want to see him when he comes back. That would be embarrassing enough, but I can't face him when he's with his new girlfriend, and his new best friend!"
