A light.
A bright, green light. And a shout. A shout mingled with the cries of both mother and child, as they desperately clung to the last strings of hope they posessed. And then nothing.

Lily opened her eyes, her vision foggy. Her eyes adjusted to the brilliant white light of the room she found herself in and saw none other than her husband, whom she believed to be dead, kneeling next to her.
"Lily…" He was saying. "Lils wake up… Please wake up…" His voice cracked.
"I'm awake" Lily mumbled, still confused and unsure of her surroundings.
James let out a shaky sigh of relief, and began rambling, tears springing to his eyes. "I thought… We were… You were upstairs and… He came and - I'm so sorry… I couldn't do anything… But we - we - we died… Harry- Harry where is he? Where are we? Lily… Oh my Lily flower… I thought I would lose you…"
Here, James could take it no longer. He began crying openly, clutching his wife as she did the same. The couple sat there, silent tears streaming down their faces, holding each other in the middle of this place, unaware that in fact, their son was alive and well, and the dark lord that had pursued them could do so no more.
