Heath Barkley stared down the three men that were slowly surrounding him. All at once they attacked. He struggled against them, but the odds were no good.
Three days earlier.
"Mother! Theres a telegram from Eugene!" Yelled Nick. Victoria came down the stairs excitment clearly written on her face. She gave Nick a kiss on the cheek before taking the telegram from him. After reading it her smile grew bigger if that was possible.
"Well whats it say?" Nick asked.
"Eugene said that he will be here on the morning of Heaths birthday." Victoria answered him.
"Thats great!" An evil grin grew on Nicks face. Victoria started to ask Nick what he was planning, but changed her mind. Nick walked out of the room to tell Jarrod and Audra the news.
The morning of Heaths birthday Nick went to pick up Eugene.
"Nick!" Gene yelled to his brother.
"Gene! About time you got home." Nick took Gene's bags from him and threw them into the buggie.
"Does Heath know I'm coming home for his birthday?" Asked Gene.
"No. Gene do you remember what Father used to do to us on our birthdays?"
"Yeah, why."
"I think we should give Heath a little surprise for his first birthday with us." Both Nick and Gene shared an evil grin.
Heath had spent a long day checking fence. He was riding home for lunch now. Dismounting he led his horse into the barn. Heath unsaddle and groomed charger. As he walked out of the barn he began to brush the dust off himself, as he did so he noticed three shadows. Each one was comeing towards him. Looking up he seen Nick, Jarrod and Eugene walking towards him.
"Gene, when did you get home?" Heath asked. Gene didn't answer. The three continued to walk towards him. Heath heard laughter coming from the porch. Victoria and Audra stood laughing at them. Heath began to back up towards the barn as the three brothers continued to walk towards him. Heath bolted for the barn door. Nick, Jarrod, and Gene, cut him off. They now blocked the entrance to the barn. Heath grinned at them then took off for the house. The three brothers ran after him. Gene tackled Heath and drug him down. Soon the four brothers were laughing as they wrestled. Victoria couldbalmost picture them as little boys. Heath struggled to get away from his brothers, but before Heath could get away Nick and Gene each had an arm and Jarrod had his Feet. Audra and Victoria were now standing by the water trough and the hands were all laughing their heads off. Heath struggled against his brothers grips. Once they were at the water trough Nick, Jarrod, and Gene lifted Heath over the edge and dropped him in. Heath managed to keep his head above water. He started to say something, but Audra pushed his head under the water.
"Audra!" Heath gasped as he surfaced.
"Sorry Heath but you have to be all wet." Audra answered. Heath glared at them.
"Happy Birthday Heath!" Everybody yelled. Heath couldn't help but laugh with them. He held his hand out to Nick who foolishly took it thinking that he was going to help Heath up. Heath pulled Nick into the trough with him. Both brothers sat in the water trough laughing at the each other.
Victoria smiled at her family, "Happy birthday Heath." she whispered.
