DISCLAIMER: I do NOT own Buffy.

AN: This just popped into my head after overhearing one of those 'no-one can hear us' conversations and wouldn't let go until I'd written it.

Buffy was exhausted. Then again, that's what happened after a double shift at the Double Meat Palace followed by an intensive patrol. Well, let's face it, if you had to work there, you'd want to kill something too.

She had just dusted her eighth fledging of the night when the inside pocket of her leather jacket began to vibrate. Shocked at first but quickly remembering her new cell phone, matching gifts for the Summers women from a certain peroxide vampire, Buffy drew the device to her.

"Hello?" she said cautiously, having not checked the caller id first.

"Slayer." came the smooth English baritone.

Buffy gulped silently. That voice still sent shivers down to places she had hoped were over him. "Spike? Why are you calling me? Is Dawn okay?"

"Nibblet's fine, pet." he chuckled. "Sound asleep."

Buffy sighed, partly in relief, partly due to her quivering nerves. "Um… Then what are you calling me for?"

"Just wanted to hear your reaction." came his teasing tone in her ear.

Buffy's mind snapped back from the pornographic images Spike's voice always caused as she realised what he actually said. "What? My reaction to what?"

"To me going through your 'special drawer'. who knew you were in to that kind of thing?!"

Buffy's mind and voice screamed out in one voice. "OH MY GOD!"

Spike started to laughed uncontrollably as the sudden dial tone rang out in his ear. He looked up at Dawn, who was watching him intently, as they sat at the top of the stairs together.

"Did it work?"

Spike flashed her a wicked grin as he hung up his own cell phone. "Like a charm, Nibblet. So, where is this special drawer of hers anyway?"

Dawn giggled slightly, imaging what her sisters face must look like at that moment. "Damned if I know. I just overheard her telling Anya that she'd put her 'thoughtful' gift in a special place. Not something she thought was appropriate for innocent little Dawnie to stumble across."

Spike's eyes widened and sparkled with mischief. His mouth twisting up into a naughty smirk. "Damn! If Anya's involved. I really need to find that drawer."

Dawn fought off another giggle as she slowly began to get to her feet. "Well, you have fun with the whole searching thing. I'm going to bed. Knowing Buffy, she's probably on her way ho…"

Dawn was interrupted by the back door crashing open and Buffy's voice booming through the house.

"SPIKE!"

Dawn shot to her feet, quickly saying "Night!" to Spike before making a mad dash into her bedroom and throwing herself under her blankets to hide.

"Oh bollocks!" mumbled Spike as he heard the ominous thundering of Buffy's feet heading his way.
