This was short. And kind of sad. How many mistakes did I make? Did you hate it? Maybe you kind of liked it? Well, probably not. Oh well. Sorry.

He had set out to make her the happiest person she could be. All he really had ever wanted for her was true happiness.

That was why he left her. He didn't want to, but he knew it was necessary.

She claimed she couldn't do it without him, but he knew better. She couldn't do it with him, because he was a distraction, an extra thing on the side that she shouldn't have to worry about. She needed to be focused on bigger, more important things, like everyone else's safety.

It tore him apart inside, to know that she was hurting because of him. He never thought of anything else, and regretted it every day. But he needed her to move on, to stop thinking about him, because it wasn't helping anyone if he was there.

He grabbed a vase that was sitting next to him, threw it at the wall, and watched it shatter into a million little parts. Like my heart, I guess, he thought, staring at the clear, glinting shards sitting on the ground. Her heart would be more accurate, though. I took her heart and threw it at the wall, just like the vase.

He could feel the tears welling up in the corner of his eyes, but he wouldn't cry. He couldn't cry. He would never get anything done if he just sat around crying and feeling sorry for himself, so he sighed and started to get up so he could clean up the jagged pieces of glass, when he heard something that sounded suspiciously like a door opening. He glanced over towards the door and saw a figure covered in shadow. Whoever it was started cautiously walking towards him. "Wow. It really is you," they said. "I've been looking everywhere, you know." When he realized who it was, a thousand emotions were flying at him all at once.

"You shouldn't be here. I left for you. You don't need me."

"Yes I do. Why else would I come looking for you?"

"You should leave."

"I won't."

"I know."

"Come back with me? Please?"

"I can't. You know that. If I could, I wouldn't have left in the first place."

"You're just being stupid! You have to come back!"

She was acting rather childish, and he could tell she was upset. He wanted to come back, so much, and she didn't even know. He really hoped she didn't start crying, because he knew that would definitely break him, seeing as he was already half broken. But instead of admitting it, he just shook his head. She stared at him for a while, looking like a neglected puppy, and it took all of his will power not to run over and hug her and tell her he would come back. And eventually, she left.

He had set out to make her the happiest person she could be. All he really had ever wanted for her was true happiness.

That was why he stayed there.
