A/N: This was written pre-Spacewalker but I think it works either way.
He has a type. Brunettes. Bellamy likes brunettes.
Not that there really were many other options on the Ark. Brunettes were the vast majority. There are a handful of blondes and even fewer redheads.
Mel is his type. Long dark hair. Sweet features. A slender build. He knows the weight of her body against him. Although that was more for necessity than anything else.
She is just nice he thinks. There is no torture in her eyes or in her past. It feels like a cool reprieve.
He tells himself that he is too busy to want. And he is.
There is a war going on and he is right there and not at the exact same time. It's pull-your-hair-out infuriating.
So when Mel smiles shyly at him or makes light conversation, he can't help but note how easy it would be to get lost in her. To forget the burden on his shoulders, to be the selfish king he once was. Even just for a few moments.
But despite knowing that, every time Mel comes up to him or when she touches his arm, all she gets is a civil nod or short few sentences in return. He doesn't draw her in like he knows he can.
As his gaze sweeps over Camp Jaha during his shift, the sunlight hits the metal of the dropship. It blinds him almost the same way that Clarke does.
The reason for keeping Mel at a distance is painfully clear.
He searches for Clarke for what feels like the millionth time today. That tug in his stomach as his eyes land on her reminds him firmly that he isn't too busy to want. Clarke and her golden hair stood toe to toe with him, healed him, fought a war and is still striving.
Bellamy may have had a type before but now he can't go back.
A/N: Soooo by now we should have all heard the good news… Season 3 yay! They will be able to torture us for another season which genuinely excites me and yet terrifies me lol hope you liked this. I feel like I need to get back in the groove of posting things. I am working on the next chapter of Through Time. Initially I was planning on a really long one shot but given that it is about half way done I might just post it. I figure you probably want it even if it is only part of what I am planning.
Also does anyone want to invite me to AO3? Apparently the automated thing is down but the personal invitations are still working. I am planning to stay strong with posting here and there. I know I appreciate how easy it is to read on that website.
