My first SasuHina one-shot in a while. Wrote this a bit ago -- based on the current manga chapters. Short, but sweet. Enjoy

It was strange. Sort of like being in a dream. He stood in front of her, his expression blank, and yet, it seemed as if he was made of air.

"Sasuke..." Hinata reached forwards and touched his cheek. He was actually there — she could feel his skin. She continued to stroke the side of his face before she lowered her hands down to his wounded chest. She focused her chakra into the wound breathing deeply in rhythm with the gentle beat of Sasuke's heart.

As the gaping hole in his chest began to his, Sasuke's heartbeat began to speed up a little, but Hinata kept her breathing calm as tears slid down her fragile face. She dropped her hands to her side, and lowered her head, sobbing silently.

Sasuke Uchiha did not envelope her in his arms like a normal boyfriend, lover, or precious person might. Like Naruto would have. Could have. Should have. However, Hinata blocked out any thoughts about the blonde — the first priority was Sasuke. He was her most precious person now.

"Arigatou, Hinata." When Sasuke finally spoke, Hinata jumped, before turning her eyes to him. She hiccoughed, and rubbed away her tears, before putting her arms around the raven-haired teen's stomach.

Sasuke put his hand on her head gently. "You don't have to be brave for me, Hinata. I can have enough courage for the both of us. I know it hurts a lot, and I know you just want me to come home..." He paused. "But I can't."

"W-why not!? Sasuke, everything I do, it only reminds me of you — and I hope to GOD you know how damned hard that is for me!" Hinata choked out, staring at him, hurt.

"Yes, Hinata, I think I do. Lie hurts like Hell. Just sometimes we have to get used to." he murmured, leaning down and kissing her forehead.

"When will I see you again..."

"Once my goal has been completed. I'll come back. And it'll be like before. Only so much better."

For the first time in a long time, Hinata finally had something to look forward to.

Thank you for reading.
