TIMELINE JOT NOTES:
Ichigo is sent back in time by 110 years (not long after Shiba Kaien became fukutaichou), he is informed by a rapidly fading Zangetsu and Hollow-Ichigo that that was as far back as they could get him without completely depleting his reiryoku reserves, but there would still be side effects to the amount they had used.
Ichigo questions what they meant by that, Hichigo states "Side effects may include, but are not limited to; de-aging, physical changing, memory loss, recalling future events before they happen, mental changes, different identities, and more!" Ichigo suddenly doubles over in pain before everything goes dark
Shiba Kaien is patrolling the outer part of the 75th District, conversing easily with Ukitake-taichou and Kyouraku-taichou when they hear the roar of a Hollow, followed by the scream of a child.
Arrive to find a large Hollow standing over a fallen child with messy black hair, ready to deal the finishing blow. Kaien feels the overwhelming need to protect the boy, and doesn't think about his movements before he vanishes in a shunpo, Nejibana drawn, and dives in front of the young boy. Easily blocks the claws and then Ukitake takes the Hollow out from behind.
Kaien is beside the boy when he wakes up (in the 4th Division); realizes the kid looks like a miniature of himself but with amber-gold eyes. When he finds out the kid doesn't remember his name, he calls him Kohaku, after his eyes, offers to adopt him into his clan.
