A light broke through the warm milk-scented nursery, as queens slept with their kits and warriors guarded the camp of MudClan. After a long night of a queen's kitting, cats were finally starting to gossip about the new kit, as two she-cats gossiped a small grey speckled thick-furred she-cat passed by them-her chest fur puffing in pride as she entered the nursery.
Meowing so that she could let everyone know her presence, a larger gray-flecked she-cat lifted her head and smiled weakly.
"Dawnpaw," she purred "I see you are excited to meet your new littermate", with a nod of Dawnpaw's head and a blink of her large amber eyes she scrambled over,
watching every step carefully to make sure she didn't step on anything or anyone. When she made it nearby her mother she blinked in amazement, it was a tiny bundle of fuzz who fed on her mother-and Dawnpaw sat and analyzed it.
"Meet your younger brother Speckledkit, Dawnpaw" she purred and she laid her head down on her paws-tired from kitting still.
"He has the same pelt pattern as us Mom!" Dawnpaw purred, "Why'd it take so long for him to come? Why couldn't it be a she-cat? Why'd you name him Speckledkit?" she blabbed as she jumped up & down in excitement & continued to ask multiple questions.
Speckledkit squeaked, and her mother lowered her ears in frustration and Dawnpaw continued to ask more & more questions,
"DAWNPAW!" she snarled, Dawnpaw stopped jumping and stood in silence "You've come for what you wanted to see, now can you please leave the nursery?". Dawnpaw stood and blinked,
"I-I think what Fernfleck meant to say was that-erm..." a golden tabby she-cat interrupted "W-Why don't you go see if your mentor has awakened Dawnpaw?" she mewed.
"But Goldcloud," Dawnpaw whined, "Why can't I stay here and look at my brother?", Goldcloud padded over and put her long fluffy tail around her and walked forward-forcing her out "Because your brother is a newborn & doesn't want you to keep breathing down his neck all the time, plus your mother was kitting him not that long ago she's very tired and snappy. So no more questions either!" she mewed sternly,
she pushed Dawnpaw out the nursery and dipped her head before turning around to go back inside.
"Dawnpaw, Snakewing is calling you!" one of the gossiping she-cats mewed as she passed by them,
"Hey did you see your brother?" the other spoke "What does he look like? What's his eye color?",
"His pelt looks like mine and my mother's and he hasn't opened his eyes yet though" she responded, she continued walking until she found her mentor Snakewing.
Snakewing was a black tortoise-shelled tom with one blue eye and one green eye, a rare but sterile tom. He was a normal warrior, averagely strong, but most importantly he was very compassionate towards everyone, no matter what rank or what clan. Dawnpaw believed he should've been the deputy-but the current leader Sharpstar, his littermate wasn't very fond of his presence.
"Morning Dawnpaw" he greeted "Today we're going to practice battle training with Lightstream, Redfall, Prickledpelt, and their apprentices, Slenderpaw, Fleekpaw, and Scarletpaw",
he whipped his tail as he eyed his sister Sharpstar coming out of the den.
Dawnpaw watched them warningly, Snakewing then walked up to her and she hissed at him,
"Pretty fussy today aren't you sister?" he purred,
"What do you want?" she snarled, she covered her stomach with her tail and unsheathed her claws,
"Why can't I just greet my only littermate a good day? What's your deal?" he meowed "I've done nothing wrong whatsoever" he continued.
"I know what you did-you killed him! You murdered my only love!" she hissed as she swiped at him.
"It wasn't me and you know it! You just need to pin the blame on someone so the pain could go away-but let me tell you something, it won't!" he hissed,
"It'll only make it worse! So just stop bitching about his death and move on! He'd want you to live stress-free, he'd even want to see the kit you're having in perfect health! But if you keep doing this it will only make things worse!", he lashed his tail and narrowed his eyes at her-hoping she heard every word he said.
"Snakewing!" a white she-cat hissed "Stop scolding her like a kit! You're stressing her out!", Snakewing bows down immediately
"I'm sorry mother-but ever since her mate passed she's been avoiding me and blabbering nonsense! She even had the nerve to not make me deputy because of a lie in her head! How am I supposed to respect the 'so-called-leader' who's my sibling if she has some invisible grudge against me" he growled.
Dawnpaw was just sitting there and taking it all in,
"Sharpstar is expecting? who's her mate? Snakewing and Sharpstar are related? Snowfang is their mother? Then that means Maplestar the Great was their father!" Dawnpaw thought, "Dawnpaw!" Snakewing shook his paw in front of her face "Hello? is anyone there? We're going to be late for practice.." he sighed, Dawnpaw snapped out of it and got up-ready to practice.
...
"Of course they came late...see Scarletpaw? Don't be like them-It won't get you anywhere." Prickledpelt grumbled, he licked his white paw and drew it over his dark spiked pelt.
As they arrived Dawnpaw analyzed them; she hadn't seen any of the older apprentices before-as usually Snakewing would never interrupt the mentor's training for them and kept out of their way, Scarletpaw was obviously a fiery red color with a tabby patterned pelt, and sharp amber eyes as sharp as her tongue-her mentor, Prickledpelt was a very large tom with gold eyes and dark brown spiky fur. Then there was Fleekpaw and Slenderpaw, littermates and kits of Goldcloud herself. Fleekpaw was a thin white she-cat with ginger tabby splotches and gold eyes; whilst her brother was a light brown colored tom with one blue eye and one hazel eye.
Dawnpaw couldn't stop looking at him for some reason-but after that she looked up at their mentors, Lightstream was the current deputy-and even though Snakewing is the nicest to her-he's only doing it so he could ignore the fact about her rank, she was a misty colored she-cat with blue eyes and she seemed fairly stronger than the others-then there was Redfall; the older sibling of Scarletpaw-but much nicer, He looked the same-only darker and came with blue eyes.
"Well it seems that everyone is here, why don't we get started" Lightstream meowed,
Without a word or warning, the warriors then started to jog in a direction-and pretty fast, that she's never been before and looking around for Snakewing or the other apprentices that she couldn't see, she nervously tried to keep up with them but she couldn't, she wasn't the fast type. Did she mention she was the youngest apprentice and the shortest one too? Yeah well, add that to the list of her flaws-she doesn't cover much ground whether she runs or not. After running in one direction to probably not veer off the path she thought she continued to do so for about 7 minutes- Yes seven literal minutes, Dawnpaw isn't the smartest she-cat okay? At some points walking throughout the forest calmed her - She panics again and she then runs toward the scent-confused and scared until she tripped and rolled down a short humid hill into the shadows.
She finally started to panic when she couldn't find anyone, she tried scenting for them-but all she was lead to was a patch of glowing minty smelling leaves,
"Mint...I think that's what mother called them, it matches her eye color too! Maybe I could take some to her-it might help her feel better!" Dawnpaw though cheerily to herself, as she plucked the dew-surfaced mint-
She then froze to remember her mother's words,
"...Like my mint colored eyes, I got them from my father" she purred,
"Mother-whats mint? Are they eyes like yours? Just sitting around the place? Oh! What if they're just green everywhere in the forest and if cats go near it they might be captured by..." Dawnkit continued to babble silly theories about what mint was-she thought it was interesting, however, her mother thought it was irritating.
"Dawnkit?" she called,
"AND THE DARK FOREST CATS WOULD GOBBLE THEM ALL UP AND-" she started to yell,
"Dawnkit." she meowed sternly,
"AND THEN THE MINT TAKES OVER THE CLAN AND KILLS EVERYONE AND-" she screeched
"DAWNKIT!" she snarled with a ruffled pelt,
Dawnkit sits patiently blinking apologetically, curling her puffy tail around her paws as cats around her looked with curiosity,
"Dawnkit" she then purred with her fur smooth and her green eyes gentle "What did I say about babbling such silly, annoying, theories that no one gives a rats tail about?"
"Keep it to myself..." she mumbled,
"Yes, good-now would you like to know what mint really is?" she settles down and curls her up with her long, plumy, tail.
"Yes please!" she squeaked as she cuddled up with her,
"Well now, mint is an herb, and herbs are used for treating cats when sick or injured" her mother purred,
"Isn't that what Snowfang uses to help the cats here?" Dawnkit mewed,
"Yes, in fact-mint is used to help cats that have bellyaches, so in case you have one-ask Snowfang for some" she purrs,
"Uhm, Mother?" Dawnkit meows,
"What is it darling?" she licks her fluffy speckled head,
"What does mint look like? I don't want to ask Snowfang for any and see some nasty, icky, black stuff! Yuck!" she gags,
"Its a patch of small green leaves that smell good-taste good too! They're usually found in the damp shadows of the forest, covered in dew. But we don't have any here on our territory-its all on CloverClan territory, so we have to send warriors with Snowfang just in case!" she purred "Now, its time for bed! Go to sleep..." she purred
...
Dawnpaw jolts awake in even more panic, not only did she fall asleep, but the glowing of the plant was gone! There was a dim orange light; meaning it was sun-down! Had no one come to find her? What if she's left behind? What'll happen then? But this was the least of her worries-she then remembers that she's not even on FeatherClan territory, what if she gets attacked by a patrol? What if she's captured? No need to worry though-she'll just have to stay until she's been found. She falls into slumber once more as she thinks about home, and being near her mother and brother.
...
"You can't be serious...right?" she hissed, Lightstream narrowed her eyes to glare at Snakewing,
The sun was going down and after reaching the training hall-only did they realized her disappearance, The apprentices huffed and puffed as they were sent to scent her out, but failed to find her.
"So after all this praise about your apprentice you've never even taught her how to fight?! How in StarClan is she going to defend herself out there?!" Prickledpelt snarled at Snakewing,
"I've never bragged about her, if that's what you mean by praise-which seems to be a completely different concept on your behalf-I didn't think she was ready yet so..." Snakewing shrugged,
"Understandable, she's too small, easy to distract, easy to go off task-it's as if she's a kit," Redfall sighed in annoyance,
"Then why doesn't she go back to that rank! I don't want to be out here to find her! My nose hurts and I just want to train! She did this to herself-its all her fault!" Scarletpaw hissed, "If only she wasn't so dumb, she wouldn't be delaying my training!" she whined,
"Be quiet! Do y'know how snobby you sound right now?" Slenderpaw hissed at Scarletpaw,
"You sound jus' like dem housepets there! When you're in a clan, everyone shoul' care for everyone! Whether they like each other or not-being in a clan means being in a family! Dawnpaw is jus' a kid, she got lost because she ain't never been here before, and even if she were to know she wouldn't have caught up tuh' us, as Redfall stated she's small! The only cat to blame for any fault isn't her! It's all of us!" he huffed,
"And what the hell would you know about being in a clan you damn barn cat! You're not even clan-born! You barely had a family from what I heard!" she snarled as she ruffled her pelt
"What does it matter what my past was you lil' sniveler! FeatherClan is me an' Fleekpaw's true family now! What's with you guys always worryin' about how 'pure your blood is' it don't define how high of a rank you are! It only defines how snobby, ugly, mean, and even lower down y'are than th'rest of anyone else!" he hissed, Fleekpaw angrily nodded behind him,
"Why you-" she snarled,
"Can you both stop-we have a more important situation here!" Redfall growled, glaring at his younger sibling,
"Wise words stated very...well," Lightstream nodded "You're right-its our fault, but we still haven't made any progress. We can't keep apprentices out later than sundown-so we'll have to leave sadly" she meowed,
"An' leave her all alone out there?!" Fleekpaw screeched worriedly,
"Unless you want to stay out here to find her?" Prickledpelt growled,
"I would! An' Slenderpaw would come with me too! We know how much of a good cat she could be, other than y'all!" Fleekpaw stomped her paw in objection,
"You deserved to be punished for speaking to a warrior like that, you runt" he hissed at her,
Fleekpaw jumped and hid behind Slenderpaw, who bunched his muscles and glared hard at Prickledpelt,
"Wow is this what you're teaching your apprentice? No wonder she's so annoying, you're making her a bad warrior, she doesn't need to follow all the rules to be-" Snakewing muttered,
"Silence! I'm not the imbecile who left their apprentice out to starve! At least I taught mine how to fight & Obey orders when told to!" he snarled,
"And what does that mean? That every apprentice trained by any warrior should be a disobedient robot only to fight, hunt, reproduce, and die for their clan? Are you claiming I'm not a good enough mentor for Fleekpaw? or Redfall for Sleekpaw and Snakewing for Dawnpaw-or you for Scarletpaw?" Lightstream objected,
"Maplestar the Great, wouldn't ever accept something like this-especially because of the fact that he trained you himself, he would want to you to be better than this" Lightstream sighed in disappointment,
...
Snakewing and Prickledpelt stiffened, Lightstream then leads the way home, as the sun was gone and the sky turned black with bright light stars showing their paths back to camp, two guards- Sandtail and Robinfang, recognizes them and lets them in, as they all walk into their specified dens.
"Psst! Snakewing!" a voice whispered, and he turned slowly, 4 pairs of glowing eyes, gold and green were staring at him-he assumed the one with gold eyes was speaking to him,
"Seems pretty silent, where's Dawnpaw?" Goldcloud mewed,
"Uhm-shouldn't you be worried about your own kits?" he meowed,
"Where's Dawnpaw..." the green eyes growled then turned to slits,
"U-Uhm well...she erm..." he stuttered,
Fernfleck prowled out of the darkness, her eyes of burning mint and her long claws shining underneath the stars, her sharp fangs also shone.
"Fernfleck! P-please calm down!" he stuttered,
She quickly leaped onto Snakewing and her claws pricked his throat, she growled in his face as he tried his best not to scream in terror-she looked dangerous as if she'd really kill him.
"Where is, my, daughter?" she snarled.
"W-We lost her! We couldn't find her!" he squeaked,
"What?!" she snarled as she tightened her grip, "Why didn't you go looking?!" she hissed,
"W-we did! Please don't kill me-I'm sorry Fernfleck!" he yowled,
She covered his mouth, looked around with her glowing green eyes and got up off of him, she then walks out of camp-no one stopping her.
Snakewing gulped as he watched her disappear, Goldcloud looked in shock,
"Now that's a true mother" she swallowed.
END
Hey! It's the author here! I just wanna say that this story is connected to the 'Kit they thought was mute' its a storyline about a character named...nevermind-but if you don't see it its because I deleted it :(
I just didn't like it already and whenever I was inspired to read it to see some changes I saw the comments and they didn't make me feel better so...yeah.
If you have any tips on the plot, story, characters, and the way I write on this story go on ahead and comment-but one more thing!
You have to note it REALLLLY nicely-otherwise it'll sound somewhat snobby to me.
TIPS
I've been getting-well let's say complaints about why is the text bolded or italic and stuff and just HAD to explain it:
Anytime anything is written in the italic font or bolded, it's emphasizing the character's/feeling of the sentence like for example:
Scarletpaw's line:
"And what the hell would you know about being in a clan you damn barn cat! You're not even clan-born!..."
And what the hell would yooooooou know about being in a clan you damn BARN CAT! You're not EVEN clan-born!
She's kinda saying it in a sassy way y'know? Like a kid having a tantrum and stomping.
Supposed to sound salty-like a Firestar kittypet and a Longtail warrior kind of relationship
So yeah that's All I got to say! More Chapters coming out! Please review!
(Also I would like it if you DIDN'T have an anonymous account to comment on here otherwise-I'd rather have from real people with accounts-NOT SAYING THAT THEY ARENT PEOPLE I'd just rather see people who write things as well to comment so I could take some notes from them-Thanks!)
