"I don't mean to be rude-" began Clary.
"Well I do," interrupted Jace. "Who are you?"
"What's it to you?" snapped Rosa.
"Rosa…" started Luke.
Rosa sighed. "Right, sorry, be nice." She took a deep breath and smiled a beautiful smile. "I'm Rosa Lupa and I'm a werewolf."
"Lupa," said Jace. "Isn't that a bit of a give-away?"
Rosa opened her mouth to reply, but Clary cut in, looking between the two Downworlders present "How do you two know each other?"
"I ran into Luke a while back and joined his pack… Briefly."
Luke snorted. "Briefly? You stayed for a day. Come night time, you'd vanished!"
The girl glared at him. "Yeah, well, places to go, people to see."
There was an uncomfortable silence. Jace, Clary and Luke were all looking at the girl.
Finally, Luke cleared his throat and said, "So when did you change your name?"
"What did you used to be called?" Clary couldn't stop herself from asking.
Rosa turned to the small Shadowhunter. "I was," she said, "Sophia Rosabelle."
Jace's eyes widened. "Really?" he said.
Clary looked at her boyfriend. "What?" She turned back to Rosa. "Why did you change your name?"
Rosa blushed, "I didn't want to be associated with my family anymore."
"But why-"
Jace snorted. "Because," he drawled, "Rosabelle is one of the most respected Shadowhunter names."
"So-?"
"So they would never tolerate having a Downworlder in their family."
They all looked at Rosa. Clary was shocked, Jace looked triumphant in being right and Luke didn't look like this piece of news surprised him.
Rosa turned and muttered to Luke, "And you wonder why I dislike the Nephilim."
"But, I thought you used to be a Shadowhunter."
"I did," replied Rosa, avoiding Clary's gaze.
"What happened?"
"Clary…" Luke began.
Rosa held up a hand to Luke. "It's fine." She gave a small smile at his raised eyebrows. "Honestly."
She lifted her arms and tied her hair into a messy bun. Once she'd finished, she pulled a small dagger out of her pocket and slipped it into her hair, where it looked just like a normal clip. Then she looked at each member of her audience in turn, grinned and said, "So, are you ready to hear my fantastic tale?"
