Choosing day. The day I escape. Today. My family is evil, too honest for their own good. I love the Dauntless, their bravery and strength. They will also give me safety from my family. My mother is abusive. I don't know how my dad would act, as he died before I was born. A cause of my mother, possibly.

I hear my name called. " Avi Johanas?" I step up to the stage. I slice my rist without hesitation. My blood drops on to the burning coals, sizzling. I walk shamelessly to the Dauntless.

As the Ceremony proceeds, I sneak glances at my mother. I can see easily over the Dauntless, as I am Six feet tall. Very tall for a 16-year-old. The boy beside me is about as tall. He smiles and says, "Hey. I'm Zach." I smile and say, " I'm Avi." He gestures to the boy next to him. "Thats Asher. We both transferred from Eurdite," Zach smiles again. Asher is a shorter boy, compared to me. A Dauntlesss born girl turns around and smiles. " I'm sorry, but I couldn't help over hearing. I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me Lizzie." I have already made friends.

The ceremony draws to a close. Lizzie turns and we run down the stairs, skipping a few as we go. As we head out side, I pick up my pace. I have run in a flat out sprint for hours before, this isn't much different. Lizzie grins. She sprints next to me. I see Dalton, a short brown haired boy from Candor running behind me. He was always a pain in my butt.

We run to the train platform. I see the train roaring in. Lizzie stops, waiting for her friends. I wait for Zach and Asher. They appear, out of breath. I reach for a handle. I slide into the car easily. Zach does too, pulling Asher with him. We are in the last car, the only other person with us a Dauntless trainer. I walk up to him. " Hi, I'm Avi." He holds out a hand. "Shane." I shake his hand. He smiles a little.

I walk to the opening of the car. I grip the handle, and pull my self out. I hold on, feet digging into the car. Shane looks at me, surprised. He leans out and says, " Careful. Don't need a transfer dead." He holds out a hand and pulls me in. I cross the car and sit next to Zach.

After around half and hour, Shane tells us to jump. I run toward the door, launching myself out. I see the ground nearing, so I start stings, but less than if I hadn't run. I spot Lizzie walking towards me. She says, " I saw you hanging onto the side of the train. I didn't know anyone but Dauntless borns were that brave." I laugh, and reply," I didn't know that was odd."

Shane walks to the front of the group. " Okay! If you are here, I trust that you can get on and off a moving train." He smirks before continuing. " To my right is a test of strangth. You will jump off this ledge. You decide if its safe. Transfers first." I step forward. " I'll go." Shane steps aside. I peer over the ledge. A black pit waits at the bottom. I take a deep breath, crouch, and sprng into a front flip.

The falling sensation sends a thrill through me. I laugh, feeling the adrenaline coursing in my veins. I hit a net, hard. I see a Boy infront of me,a hand out. I take it, and he pulls me off. " Thanks," I say. " No problem. Name? I need to announce the first jump." He looks at me with dark blue eyes, curious. "Avi," I say cautiously. " FIRST JUMPER-AVI!" He yells. He smiles and says, " Welcome to Dauntless."
