Quote: "And last but not least..." Anyone notice the slip up there. Someone could have easily taken that as the end of the turn, and then Golem would have had to wait. I was watching the dub version of episode 1 yesterday when I noticed that...and then this drabblish fic was born.
Enjoy.
Last but not Least
Ep. 1 spinoff. "You really ought to watch what you say teach."
Chronos/Dr. Crowler and Judai Y/Jaden
Rating: K+
Genre/s: Humour
'And last but not least, I play Heavy Storm.' And this, young scholar, destroys every other spell and trap that's out on the field.'
Jaden instinctively shielded his face with an arm as the storm swallowed up his Draining Shield, the holographic projection even going so far as to make his brown mop of hair appear ruffled in the process.
That was a bit of a blow; Draining Shield was a very useful trap, but he had plenty more tricks up his sleeve and couldn't help but grin as he noted two more cards shatter.
'Whoops. Did you forget that you had two trap cards out on the field yourself?'
The Doctor's voice took on a tone reminiscent of one lecturing a small child. 'Now, now. You mustn't speak out of turn young scholar.'
The holographic field seemed to agree, becoming dark and stormy as though in anticipation.
'What's happening?'
'Nothing's happening.' Evidently, Doctor Crowler was enjoying the moment very much. 'Not yet anyway.'
Two token chose that moment to appear where the spell cards had been.
'And now-' the Doctor began, only to be interrupted.
'I guess it's my turn.' The brunette grinned again, drawing a new card. 'But that was a sweet turn.'
Crowler's face almost went red with rage, but he managed to keep up a relatively calm facade. Emphasis on the relatively.
'How dare you interrupt my turn,' he spluttered, before clearing his throat and adapting a more professional manner. 'What I mean to say is-'
'You said "last but not least",' Jaden pointed out with a shrug. 'You really ought to watch what you say teach. But since I totally want to see what you'd do with those tokens, I'll just-'
He cut off to look at the three cards in his hand, then the one he had drawn. Winged Kuriboh.
Seeing him looing, Kuriboh's image turned slightly and blinked.
'-summon Winged Kuriboh in defence mode,' he continued aloud, after his brief silent (to the outside observer) interlude. 'And I'll throw down a face down too.'
Crowler resisted the urge to shred his hankerchief to pieces.
I'll make him regret he ever made that move!
Too bad he wasn't able to live up to that promise...or perhaps not so bad, all in all.

From that point, the duel could, if keeping in par with canon, go two different ways. Either Crowler, after summoning Ancient Gear Golum, attack Winged Kuriboh as the weaker monster (likely seeing as he didn't know his special affect), and Jaden takes no damage, triggers Hero Signal, then defeats him the following turn without loosing the 2000 life points from Avian's destruction and using The Warrior Returning Alive. Or, Crowler could attack Avian, less likely, from where Jaden would again use Hero Signal and what not, only Kuriboh doesn't get destroyed. Either works, or there's the third option. None of the above.
