"I can't believe you got sorted into Gryffindor… You were supposed to be in Slytherin… With me," mumbled Severus Snape as he and Lily Evans studied for Charms together.

"I know, I know, but everybody's so nice in Gryffindor! I was talking to James earlier and he said-"

"What?" interrupted Severus. "You were talking to James Potter?"

"Yes. Yes I was."

"You're not allowed to talk to him! We talked about this, Lily! He's bad news! He and Sirius have gotten a month's detention already and it's only our first week! He's nothing more than a hooligan! He's a bastard!" yelled Severus.

"Sev! How dare you say something like that! He's my friend! You can't tell me who I can and cannot spend time with! I don't like half your friends but I have to put up with them, don't I?" replied Lily.

"I-I'm sorry, Lily. Don't get mad at me. Please," Severus said as he laid his hand on top of Lily's. He smiled at her and she gave a weak smile back. "We shouldn't be fighting. We're best friends, right Lil?"

"Of course," Lily responded.

Sirius Black walked straight up to their working table causing Severus to mouth a cuss. "Lily, James is looking for you."

"Oh alright, where is he?" asked Lily. Severus' eyes popped at her reply.

"Over there, under the tree," said Sirius pointing to a spot about fifty yards away.

Sirius turned around, and Lily grabbed her stuff about to follow when Severus grabbed her arm.

"You're going over there?" asked Severus, his face becoming redder and redder as every second went by.

"Sev, stop. Of course I'm going over there it would be rude not to. I'll be back in a couple of minutes," Lily said. She then pulled her arm away and ran to the spot under the tree where James Potter sat.

Severus saw them talking and then James pulled out his wand and magicked a lily. So cliché, thought Severus rolling his eyes. They talked for a bit more, but then Severus saw Lily's face change from a sweet smile to an angry frown. She threw the lily on the ground and trod on it. She quickly walked back over to Severus, which brought a smile to his face.

"What happened?" Severus asked Lily as she sat back down.

"Well, we were just talking and he was being really sweet. Then he asked if me if I wanted to study with him sometime."

"Did you say yes?"

"Of course I said yes… at first. Then he started going on about how I shouldn't be talking to you and how he and his friends were so much better. That bastard."

Severus smiled, got up, and hugged Lily as hard as he could.
