As the summer dwindled, sixteen year old Lily Evans became very bored with life in the Muggle world. She felt like she didn't fit in, especially with her family. Her sister, Petunia, was jealous of her younger sister being magical, and Lily knew it. Though Petunia was adamant about pestering Lily about being magical, Lily knew that Petunia was hiding her jealously.
With two weeks left in the summer, Lily was ready to make the move back to her home away from home: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She had made many friends at Hogwarts over the past five years, including Remus Lupin and Alice Prewett. Remus was in Lily's year while Alice was in the year above Lily. Though Lily communicated with her friends via owl, it wasn't the same.
"Lily! Can we talk to you for a moment?" Lily's mother, Rose, said to her daughter from her bedroom door. Lily was reading a Muggle book that her father had gotten her from the library called To Kill a Mockingbird, which she found interesting. Lily nodded and followed her mother to the dining room where her father, Thomas, was seated. Rose sat next to him and offered the seat on the other side of Thomas to Lily.
"Dad, is this about me going to Diagon Alley with Remus tomorrow?" Lily asked her father.
"Yes. We will allow you to go with your friends as long as you meet us in the Leaky Cauldron around five o'clock tomorrow night. We should be done purchasing Petunia's materials for University by then."
Lily was excited. For the past five years, Lily was escorted around Diagon Alley by either her mother or her father, with permission from others for her parents to be there since they were Muggles. This year, she would be able to have fun with her friends, exploring every shop and every nook and cranny of Flourish and Blotts and find books she had not read yet. "Thank you, Dad, Mum! You won't be sorry!" And with that she ran upstairs to use her owl, Spinner, to send an owl to Remus and Alice.
"Now you have your money, and your course materials list?" Rose asked her youngest daughter.
"Mum, we have been through this already! I am nearly seventeen, which is legal in the magical world! I'll be fine, and Alice is of age already." Said Lily, reassuringly.
"Oh, alright. Just meet here by five o'clock or your father will be furious."
"Yeah, freak. Don't want to make Dad angry, do you?" Petunia said. Oh of course she would say that, Lily thought. She always felt the need to call Lily a freak on a daily basis, which got Lily angry. But there was nothing she could do about it since she was the odd one out in the family.
And with that, Rose and Petunia departed from where Lily was, and Lily headed to the Leaky Cauldron, where the entrance to Diagon Alley was. Before she got to the bricks in the alleyway of the Leaky Cauldron, she saw a familiar face behind her.
"Hey, Lily! Long time no see!" This boy had brown hair, and was immensely taller than Lily. He looked like he went through a lot throughout the years, because the parts of the body that was shown was covered in scars, healed or healing. Lily knew his secret, but knew not to tell anyone...unless she wanted to lose her best friend.
"Hey, Remus!" The two embraced in a friendly hug and headed into Diagon Alley to see if they could find some other friends to shop for supplies with.
