The irritating chirp of a particular Pidove startled me from my peaceful doze, and I peeled open my eyes to yet another day. The rain was beating hard against the glass of my window and no sunlight peeked through the stormy clouds. However, this was not just an ordinary day- nor would the rest of my days be as such. After all, today was actually my sixteenth birthday! Then I remembered: I didn't have much to maintain excitement about.

Most children had normally received a Pokemon when they turned ten, but times had admittedly changed. The presence of Pokemon had grown scarce in the Unova region, and Professor Juniper was no longer able to give out as many Pokemon as she previously had. Thus, she continued pushing back the age limit, as if the Pokemon would eventually return.

"Happy birthday, sweetie!"

I had not heard my mother come upstairs, though I should have expected it. I glanced over at her quietly, and there was a small glimmer of sadness in her eyes. She knew that I desperately wanted a Pokemon. After all, I had dreamed of becoming a fantastic trainer like the legendary Cynthia in the Sinnoh region ever since I was a young girl. Sometimes, my broad dreams and silly imagination led me to believing I could perhaps one day defeat the beautiful woman- or maybe even those stronger than her.

"Jae, honey, I have some news that might cheer you up.."

I blinked the forming tears from my eyes, silently wondering.

"We're moving to the Kalos region."

My heart froze. Time seemed to stop and even Softy- the Pidove- seemed to stop preening her pale feathers. I blinked. I had never moved anywhere outside of Unova throughout my entire life! A whole new region would be difficult.. But perhaps it could be a brand new experience, too.

"Your father needs to find a new job- the Castelia Gym is no longer in his possession and times are difficult here in Nimbasa as well." I knew that my mother had been a model, in her younger years. After she and Burgh began talking, they quickly pursued marriage. I was born, around that time, too. Some wonder if the new generation was the reason that the Pokemon in Unova were disappearing.

"We're leaving tomorrow. There will be time to celebrate your birthday, but not right now. Plus, I think you might want to say farewell to Nathan."

Oh crap! My childhood best friend, Nathan, won't be happy about this at all..
