"What is this?" he asked with trepidation, afraid to smile.

"Never seen a birthday cake before?" she smiled tilting her head to the side. "Sit… eat," she reached for a blue napkin as he sauntered across the grass towards her.

He sat down on the soft rug and looked at the spread she had laid out for him. A white birthday cake with strawberries decorated on top, chocolate covered strawberries and a bottle of champagne to help wash it all down.

"I thought you were… I thought," he swallowed nervously as he curled his legs underneath him. When he couldn't find her on the bridge, he immediately thought the worst. He had been out of the hunting business for nearly a year but still the first thing he thought was that a demon had taken her away from him. "Just don't disappear like that on me again… okay?"

She smiled and gently placed her hand on his shoulder. "Well…" she whispered in his ear.

"Well?" Sam looked in the direction of her eyes. The champagne! "Oh… yeah… of course," he fumbled at the gold foil that wrapped the top of the bottle.

"No, silly," she giggled and pointed to the one candle on the cake. She pulled out his lighter and lit the wick.

"Oh yeah… that," he tried to laugh. He felt so ridiculous. He had birthdays before but everything seemed like a new experience with Amelia.

"Make a wish," she said softly.

He turned to her and smiled. He only had the one. He touched her chin with his fingers and gently kissed her lips. "I wish today never ends."

She pushed him away playfully. "Why'd you go and say that? Now, it'll never come true."

Sam immediately awoke when the Impala drove over a speed bump too quickly. A hand dropped on his shoulder and he jumped around quickly. "Easy dude, it was just a bad dream," his brother reassured him. "Yeah," Sam rubbed the sleep out of his eyes. "A dream," he mumbled and straightened in his seat.

A dream he wanted to relive.

A wish that didn't come true.
