"Phiiiiil!" I called out, "What happened to the Crunchy Nuts? I just bought them at the grocery store the day before last!"
"Oh... About that..." Phil raced down the stairs in a pug sweater and skinny jeans, looking adorable, per usual. I stole a glance at the ebony-haired boy whilst he was fixing his hair. I wish I could tell him it looked perfect. I wish I could tell him that he was so freaking adorable and spectacular and ugghhh.
I wish I could tell him that I loved him, and even though we knew each other better than anything, I still got butterflies when he looked at me, touched me, or even said my name. That he flooded my life with bright, vivid colour disguised as laughter and 3am pancakes and 4 hour Skype calls, llamas versus lions and Dil, cat whiskers and hair straighteners tangled together. Stolen shirts and nerdiness, Starbucks and houseplant funerals and consulting WebMD for all the times Phil ran into the door. Existential crisises and plane trips, to writing books and...
"Dan are you listening to me?" Phil asked, cocking his brow with concern.
"Yeah, I'm just tired, I guess." I say, shrugging it off, like it was no big deal. "Hey Phil?" I ask, right as the raven-haired boy turns around.
"Yeah Dan?" He replies absentmindedly, doing a 180°.
"I noticed something's been on your mind recently, or weighing you down. What is it?"
"Well... Honestly I've noticed the same for you, so how about we say it at the same time in..."
"3..."
"2..."
"1..."
"I love you." We both say unanimously.
After getting over the shock of it all, I break down into tears. That the Skype calls and cat whiskers finally paid off...
