Grief is the price we pay for love- Dr Colin Murray Parkes and Queen Elizabeth II
Tony turned to look at his father. Tears welled up in his eyes, making hi vision blurry. He knew what he wanted to say, but did not know how to say it.
What do I do? Please tell me what do I do? he thought, silently pleading with his father to take the lead.
When Joy, Tony's mother, died, Tony had been sad and missed her desperately. However, it wasn't until now did he realise the pain his father had lived with for so long. The love of his life dead, and he left alone to pick up the pieces of a life that would never happen.
Gibbs stepped forward, and he and Senior steered Tony back towards the lift, and his father drove the two of them home. The car ride was silent and sad, reminding both men of the drive home after Joy's funeral. Senior too, was sad. He had hoped that his son would never experience what he had. After Joy died, Senior did not know what to with himself. Yes, they had planned, prepped, but they had done that when she alive. When she died, Senior struggled. Struggled to hold it together and keep going for his son.
When Ziva decided to stay in Israel, Tony had been heartbroken. Whilst Senior loved Ziva and wished that she and Tony had realised their feelings for each other sooner, he hated the way she treated his son. A part of Senior hoped that Tony would move on, and when Zoe Keates came into the picture, it looked like it might have been possible. However, once Senior discovered the box of photos of Ziva that Tony had hidden, he knew in his heart that Tony was still, and probably would always been in love with Ziva.
When they got back to Tony's apartment, Senior went to the kitchen to get Tony something to eat. He probably wasn't hungry, but Senior felt like he needed to do something practical. He walked back into the living room only to find his son a complete mess. Head in his hands, Ziva's Star of David necklace hanging from his fingers, his body shaking with tears and sadness. Senior had never seen his son like this. Not even when his mother died. God, he wished Junior's mother was here. She would know what to do, what to say.
Senior placed the plate of food on the coffee table and sat down next to Tony. He put his hand on Tony's shoulder and squeezed it. He was not alone. Senior needed him to know that, that he had his father, and everyone at NCIS. Tony lifted his head slightly and looked at his father, tears still making his vision blurry. Senior nodded, understanding what Tony was trying to convey. As Tony put his head back in his hands, Senior wipe away his own tears, grieving for the love of his son's life, and they life they would never have.
Disclaimer: I do not own NCIS
I stuck with Joy as Tony's mother's name.
I wrote this before She was aired. I know Ziva is alive but in Family First before he met Tali, Tony was told that Ziva had died.
