Notes: Aya-chan and Sakura are in Tokyo. Weiss, meanwhile, has moved to Kyoto. This was written after re-watching Weiss straight through with rosalyn angel, who was kind enough to beta for me.

Schuldig has been here before. He has parked his car outside this shop and watched a girl whose eyes still ache with too much sunlight, dance around the flowers and laugh. Schuldig thinks of the man who never laughs, and thinks if Aya did, his eyes would light up and his mouth would bow like the girl's in the shop.

But he will never see Aya laugh, and he knew this before he came. It is pointless to stay here. So he starts his car and leaves.

Schuldig has been here before. He has stood in this empty bedroom, still vacant even after a month and a half, and smelled the lemon-scented cleaner and the bleach that have conquered the stench of blood and sweat, and the scent of the room's former occupant. He has touched this bare mattress and thought of Aya tossing and turning here, and he has touched the kitchen cabinets as if putting his fingers where Aya put his fingers will connect them somehow.

But it won't, and Aya is gone beyond his mind's reach, and he knew this before he came. It is pointless to stay here. So he opens the window and launches himself into the night.

Schuldig has been here before. He has stood on this balcony with Crawford, looking over the city of Tokyo and being briefed on why he should follow willingly once again. He has heard these reasons, he has heard this plan, he has leaned on this railing and smirked this selfsame smirk.

But then Crawford changes things with four little words: "Weiss is in Kyoto."

And Schuldig's smirk wilts at the corners, then blooms into something more hopeful. "Then it's pointless to stay here," he says, and goes inside to pack his bags.
