A/N: This short little one shot takes place during the episode of 2010.
Joe's reaction to Jack got a few people thinking that maybe something catastrophic happened between Sam and Jack. (Besides, why wouldn't they be together?)
I hope you enjoy it!

"How dare she?" Jack growled, and he stormed back into his cabin after Sam's impromptu visit.
"She came here, demanding that I help!" He looked past the living room, into the kitchen and proceeded toward it.
"Oh No, Sir. The Aschen are great!" He uttered, mocking her voice.
Jack stood there with the refrigerator door open. He sighed slowly and shut the door.
Was that the reason why he was so… disturbed by her visit? Because of the damned Aschen?
His mind flashed back to their last night together, the night they walked away from each other.
--
"Damn it, Jack. You are such an asshole." Sam's voice was ringing in his ears.
"I just call 'em as I see 'em… Carter."
She turned away from him, and he could hear slightly audible counting to regain control of her temper… which just sent him over the edge.
"I'm not some child, Carter; some child that needs to be counted too."
She turned around, her eyes blazing at him, "When you stop acting like one…"
"I'm acting like a child! Really Carter! ME?!" He screamed at her. "I'm not the one out there, doing what you did!"
"And what did I do Jack? What was so wrong with what I did?"
He huffed at her and stormed into the kitchen. He needed to put some distance between them.
"You promised Sam. You promised, and you broke it."
"Jack, you can't be serious!" She threw her hands up into the air to exaggerate her point.
He stared at her, his heart breaking into millions of pieces.
"I'm sorry Jack. I…" her voice trailed off. "I didn't know."
"What?"
"I didn't know it would hurt you like this."
He closed his eyes, and looked at her again.
"You can't…"
She sighed hard, and swallowed the lump that had begun to grow in her throat. "I'm sorry. But Jack, you have done some things too."
He studied his feet before looking back at her. "I know, Sam."
They looked at each other and knew that this was the end. They had crossed too many self-imposed lines, and it seemed as if lately, they were hurting each other on purpose.
What the hell happened to them?
She went to the bedroom and returned in a few minutes with a small suitcase.
"I'm going to get a hotel room tonight." She said, her voice somber.
"No Sam, I will. That's wrong."
"Jack, this is your home. It's not mine. I think that was always part of the problem."
She closed the door softly behind her. He didn't know exactly how long he stood there, looking at the door where she had walked out. His knee started to ache, so he slid slowly to the floor, never taking his eyes off of the door. That was the last image in his mind that night, and the first thing his eyes saw the next morning.
--
Jack concentrated on the unpleasant memories that had been bombarding his mind since Sam's visit.
Then, out of the blue, a smile started to pull at the corners of his mouth.
If they were successful, and Sam's plan worked…which it was Sam's plan so it would he knew. But if they were able to warn themselves never to go to that dreaded planet, maybe they could set things right. They would never meet the Aschen.
He never would have to deal with the pain of losing Sam.
He could set things right.
He rubbed his face, and started towards the bathroom for a shower and a shave.
