She flew flew to the ground in front of him, but she wasn't alone. A dark blue, and green duck followed stopping when he landed beside her.
She, his duck, tilted her head as if to say, 'look.' She quacked , trying to convey that she had found her mate.
Fakir was trying to figure out, what she was trying to say.
"Who is this?" Fakir asked, as if expecting Duck to speak to him in a way that he could understand.
She quacked louder, sounding frustrated that he could not understand her.
"Do you love him?" Fakir asked, trying to swallow the lump in his throat.
Duck nodded, glancing up at him innocently, shattering his heart with that simple gesture.
'She's a duck, after all. She is supposed to find a mate that is a duck.' Fakir reminded himself, fighting off his tears.
He forced himself to be happy for them.
"Are you two going to nest here, or are the the two of you staying at my place?" Fakir asked.
Duck quacked, waving her wing to the pond.
Fakir's heart broke even more.
He forced himself to be reasonable.
He hadn't found a way to turn her human again, and she might as well enjoy her life as a duck.
