The Trickster Crow
Chapter 1
It was late.
About midnight, thought Kaitou Kid as he looked toward the sky. Tonight had not been as smooth as he would have liked. First Hakuba-kun, the foreign kid that seemed to be absolutely obsessed with trying to catch him, showed up during the heist. Then, once he had easily escaped him, that high school kid, Kudou Shinichi, also known as Edogawa Conan, showed up out of nowhere and nearly knocked him out cold from his high powered soccer ball kick. Now his night couldn't be more horrible because on top of everything, it was cloudy. This was a major problem since he had to see if the gem he had stolen was the Pandora gem and the only way to tell was to put the gem in the moonlight.
Kid sighed, tired. He had had a long day and had been really looking forward to going home and taking a shower for it was very humid out and even though his cloak looked thin, it was actually quite thick making him very hot on nights like these.
I feel like I'm forgetting something though, he thought as he began to search his memory for the thing he seemed unable to remember. He knew it was important, but he could just not think of what it was.
As Kaitou Kid was trying unsuccessfully to remember what it was, a dark shape came flying straight at him. He was so deep in thought that he never saw it until it was too late.
The crow came at him like a bullet, making a bee line for the sparkling gem in Kid's white gloved hand. After snatching the gem from the white hand, it sped off toward the west, away from the skyscrapers of downtown Tokyo.
When Kid finally got over his shock of having the gem taken from his hand, he jumped off the skyscraper he had been thinking on and sped off in the direction the crow had gone by use of hang glider. All that was going through Kid's head was that he had to get the gem back because it might be the Pandora Gem.
After several miles of this wild goose chase, Kid finally managed to gain a little distance on the crow. But after a few more minutes, it became obvious that he would not be able to gain any more distance on the bird. He made a quick decision and pulled out his card gun which was loaded with sharp, thin metal playing cards and pointed the nozzle at the crow. He was being careful because he did not want to hurt the crow too badly; he only wanted the crow to drop the gem that was in its beak. He knew that he only had one shot. He aimed and fired.
The next thing he knew was that the bird was speeding now away in a northernly direction and the gem was falling toward the ground at a very fast rate. Before Kid could glide after it, he froze…
Oh no… was all he could think at the time.
